Well either it's the playbook/tactics, the builds, or the roster construction...or all 3.

When you say your players aren't actually bad at run stuffing, they could be average in that area yet get exposed by pure run teams built a certain way. I don't know enough about your team to say.

You may have a point there. Its mainly power HB's that kill us. And seeing as those are getting common...

Pump up tackling skills. Only way to combat it.

The LB's always getting there, but they get dragged. I guess I'll try tackling grip and see what happens.

sounds like you need more power tackling tbh.

They need tackle tech and tackle grip. Power tackling does nothing against power rushers. My defense is full of power tacklers and power rushers break tackles all day. So I started adding tackle tech and tackle grip and my defenders began tackling power HBs.

I thought power tackling helped slow forward progress, whether thats by an instant stick tackle, or by decreasing their speed while being dragged.

I've definitely seen powerbacks drag players faster or slower depending on the tackler. Whether that's a function of power tackling, player weight, or some combination of both, I don't know. Obviously an energy/morale component to all of it too.

Sure it slows them down but when the HB throws 3 players off him it doesnt matter.

It also won't matter that you can hang on for 20 yards when he can outrun the potential help tackler with you on his back.

So we did good against the run against a pro team. We took the W, defense played a great game. Everyone has max 60+ tackling tech. We FF's all the time so power tackling isn't much of a problem.
