the main problem is that if there are two "short pass/run man blitz" plays, for example, that you want to be specifically called in different situations, i.e. play A called 100% of the time for 3rd and very long and play B called 100% of the time for 2nd and medium, it is not possible to do that.

This is part of what I'm getting at. Then factor in all the formations and needing to either call the same kind of play across the board or only have one kind of play in a formation. Maybe I want an no blitz outside run play on 1st down out of the 2WR formation, a blitzing pass/run out of the 3WR formation, and an inside run out of the 4WR set. Just figuring out how to pull off 1st down alone takes some work without sacrificing other downs. I spend 80+% of my time trying to get these stars to all line up.

This is just not the best way to go about this.

I agree that it could have been set up differently and more understandable/flexible.

It's actually fairly simple if you know how to set it up. I have a base tactics and playbook created. When I have a game coming up, I clone and rename them and make the necessary changes. I know the base tactics/playbook by heart and my game plans don't deviate much, so it doesn't take very long to make the necessary changes.

It's simple if you just want a bland ai with a few of the best plays but that really isn't a desirable way to keep this game afloat.

Yeah but you can't do that for Offense either.

But you can run specific sets of plays. Which would be much more desirable defensively than currently what is possible.

I mean if I had more control over the situation/package defensively I could run but I had to put down 4-5 plays in that package, I would be ok with that.

Within the confines of a sim where RNG exists at some level, I think the current range of D plays works. I'm not saying it couldn't be better or easier to manipulate, but I can pretty much get the D play I want to fire in a certain situation to fire.

I guess I'll have to writeup a detailed guide.

There isn't a detailed guide that fixes the problem people have been having since day one. You only can lessen the problem by working around the system and using less plays.
