Depending on what the rest of the team does they can have either Offense, Defense, Recruiting and in general owner duties. In general with GM's I look for people I can trust and have a general knowledge of everything.

Spoken like a great (assistant)GM!

Edit: After posting I see how this could be taken as an insult. I assure you it was not. It was intended to glorify your ability to impart knowledge about the game to teams that aren't your top priority.

So if they are not OCing, DCing, or recruiting they are basically advisers or cheerleaders or something? I wonder because they seem to be the main trash talkers while OCs and DCs seem to keep things more in perspective.

Of the teams i'm involved in-
Rhode Island Falcons - Owner - Major Recruiting, Roster Management, Defensive Coordinator, Coach Coordinator.
Rancho - Assistant GM - Minor Recruiting, Roster Management, Defensive Coord.
Providence - Assistant GM - Assistance Scouting, Idea Bouncing, and eventually DCing key games.
Air Raid - GM - Minor Recruiting, Idea Bouncing, Defensive coordinator
Rappers Delight - DC - Defensive coordinator for important games... Pretty auto pilot here.
Victorious Secret - Head Coach - Fill in for McGruff if he's gone, Minor Recruiting, Minor scouting, talking tactics.
WCW - Assistant GM - Assistance Scouting, Idea Bouncing, Filling in at DC if required. Minor Recruiting and roster management.
Ground Assault - DC - Fill in for McGruff and scouting/tactics. Eventually alternating DC to make scouting harder.
Draco Dragons - HC - Build direction and filling in. When there's a question I can either give the correct answer or figure it out with our OC/DC.

GMs can schedule scrims, whereas Head Coaches can't.

So if you have a good HC (does OC and DC lets just say), making that person GM allows them to do scrims (and pay the FLEX) cost if the owner is unwilling to.

Every GM is different. Every "slot" is different actually. It's really team by team.
