I like the idea. Obviously for only those that want to ENTER the draft. And probably only for rookie players. The reason why I think it would be good is it would encourage more people to make rookie players...superstar players would obviously be picked highest...it would also help bad teams get good players, as it stands now only the good teams get the superstar players while the bad teams languish.

So, I think if you have it where anyone that wants to make a rookie player can opt into a draft to fill rookie teams, I like the idea.

Also, if each agent had an "experience level" then the newest agent with the lowest experience level would get the first pick, and some agent with a ton of experience and championships would get the last pick each round (as the superbowl winning and strong playoff teams in the NFL always pick 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st, and 32nd.) Pretty much nothing is done in GLB to help bad teams get better which is why the same strong teams in the same strong clans dominate year after year. Personally, I would make some superstar players and enter them into a draft, and wouldn't mind if they got picked by some bad team to help them out. Or, if they get picked later by a good team and win something, thats fine too.

So you want to punish people for playing the game for a long time? I dont think thats very helpful from a customer relations point of view...

Is that the job of the game? Sure it is hard to build a succesful team, especially if you are new to the game. But forcing players to play for a team that potentially goes inactive or is bad run cant be the solution. Winning a championship shouldnt be easy.

The only way I could see it working is if it were done on something like the D leagues and have it all CPU run. So it would be random who got picked and where they got picked. RAWR bragging rights?

But even if you accepted that as a premise there are other details like - how long are the players attached to the team that drafted them? 1 season? multiple seasons? How does the rest of the roster get filled out (CPU players - I assume)? If drafted player's agent leaves the game, does the CPU team continue to use that player? What about players who join D Leagues after the draft has occurred?

That is what the draft is for ROOKIES. People who are new to the game. Maybe the the team doesnt have to be own. since most of the owners up doesnt own a below four star rookie team. This could be an all CPU draft for people who are new to this game, ROOKIES.

The problem is...

Rookies, before the season starts, are all pretty much the same. And if the CPU is doing the draft, then they're picking players pretty much at random. Which doesn't make this any better than the current way of sending out random contracts.

The only way to do a draft is for teams and players to sign up for a draft league. Functionality would have to be coded so that when you sign up, your player would automatically be signed to the team that drafted you. If you just let teams and players do this without enforcing it through code, it will never work.

It's a "nice to have" but put it on the backlog. There are several other level 1 defects that need to be addressed prior to implementing a draft functionality.

I think there are way better ways to help new players to understand the game. Do a mentoring programm or set up a tutorial thats easy to find on the agents page. Something you can look at as often as you need to. Improve the FAQ and GLB forum section (btw, renaming the "community" section into "forum" probably would help, to start with). There needs to be a search function for the forum, but I think thats a suggestion from back in season 6 in GLB classic, so this is probably a NGTH for technical reasons. There are a lot more little things that could be done to help new players, a draft is defiantly not in the TOP 10 of these suggestions. Like Glactic said. Nice to have (if not exploitabel), but something I could wait for another 25 seasons... or more.

The player-organized draft in GLB1 was pretty fun for the few seasons it ran. Some people got screwed because it wasn't mandated or anything but the large majority of players either found teams super simply (by signing up and forgetting about it) while some GM's who took over abandoned teams got to refill their roster for free (which was a 24+ hour recruiting job back then to try and fill 40 some odd positions)

I don't see why it couldn't work, it would basically be how the rookie teams looking for players forum works right now - just in code. A guy says "I want to start a rookie team" and people sign up to make dots with plans of what they want. Why not just do that through a draft and let people make dots and write what that dot is supposed to be (like the marketplace) and let people choose. If people want to recruit by themselves that's fine. Have a waiting list for the draft for rookies (and similar for owners) to enter and only allow enough rookie dots at a time to fill one team so there are no dropouts (everyone gets picked).

It's much better than trying to use the forum but there are better things to work on I guess (even though it doesn't seem that hard, but I digress).

Not that we are trying to beat the victory out of you, the idea has been brought up loads of times, as you were told, you were also told that players have tried a draft, from a pool of players that wanted a draft, and they still didn't follow their own rules.

Honestly - I would love a draft if it worked.

Having a random draft to get into D Leagues (all levels - and assuming you signed up before end of current season) is just dumb enough for me to enjoy. However I think most people wouldn't care for it and even I think it would be mostly a waste of developer time.

If there was a real draft with humans drafting to real teams the biggest fear is that you get stuck on a team where the owner is a nut job and makes your existence painful or they abandon the team and you waste your season. Which is why I only see it feasible in an all CPU league.
