I'd guess it will be an overall small percentage. They aren't part of the presets, and I'm sure plenty of teams are just cruise controlling with leftover playbooks.

New plays are fun -- I'd be curious though if Stobie could run his super duper script and see how often last seasons new defensive plays got run this season in real games.

I know you have skin tougher than steel -- but I hope we don't get a barrage of "7 hours on 1 play and X is still broken!?!" posts?

Thanks for all the hard work

Ask and you shall receive.

So basically this is grouped by Play ID, Tier of the defensive team, WR called against.

You have the counts of how many rush plays and pass plays and then corresponding percentages. BIGGAINPCT is anything that was a net gain of over 10 yards.

At this point I have stored 1,104,621 defensive plays and of those only 7,856 were these new plays giving a 0.7111941561857% call rate.

Well, super interesting data anyway, even if they aren't used that much.

thanks stobie!

Interesting - sure less than 1% isn't a lot (duh).

But 7000 times run is something.

None of us can figure it out -- looking at all games -- what % of games did a team use a default preset O or D?

If that number is significant -- I'd go back to saying those need to be cleaned up -- find a way to allow some volunteers (I'd volunteer) to tidy those playbooks up....

crappy playbook = not fun

Depends.

Spamming a bunch of plays is a lot more fun than alternating between Man Base and...(do people run anything besides Man Base nowdays?) let's say Doge All Go.

I must be out of the loop. I don't think I run any of the top plays.

Might be time to go back to my overload blitzes... because even if I don't get to the QB, he still has to scramble way out of the pocket and that should lead to a solid accuracy penalty... but also no hurry. Hmm...

I hear you -- so the directive is - improve these default playbooks without spamming crap.

If they made the means of selecting D plays easier, there would be less spam (well, except for down/distance specific spam).

Part of the problem is that builds matter so much that even if you know what the D is calling, there might be nothing you can do about it on O.
