There are many reasons why a pro team is at #70, considering their season last season. But I do think that the matchup rules need to be adjusted a little bit.

Rookie should only play Rookie
Sophomore should only play Sophomore and Seasoned
Seasoned should only play Seasoned and Journeyman
Journeyman until proven otherwise should play any league above and below.
Pro obviously any team in Pro and Vet

So essentially this would be the range.

Rookie == 0
Sophomore +- 1
Seasoned +- 1
Journeyman -1 to +2
Pro +- 1
Vet -2 to 0

Took a sizable ladder rank hit for that too, -5. Not really sure this is a true Elo system - and still don't know why a 6-5 Pro team would be down at #70 in the first place, much less why my seasoned team was set to play them.

I seriously doubt your hit will still be -5 at the end of the day...as things sort out I bet you only lose 2-3 spots or so (but it does suck you had to play a pro team).

I'm not complaining because I do think this is the only way to have a true ladder -- but there is SO MUCH luck now based on random chance (who you draw). It will be interesting at the end of the season - but the team who draws the most Pro's -- vs the team who draws the most seasoned -- or who draws the most 'already given up' journeyman will have had luck as a huge factor in their season end ladder position.

Again - I do believe it is the only way for the ladder to work - but luck is huge. I guess it was last year too - as teams drew the same matchups week after week at the top of the ladder sometimes -- and if one team dominated the other - that was an advantageous matchup too (for one of them at least).

If we keep winning more than half of our ladder games - sometime early next season we'll likely be playing top 20-30 pro teams as journeyman...so the road certainly doesn't get any easier from here.

Well - the issue with the Orphans is that they had their ELO reset at a stupid level right? If not for you/pallow salvaging them -- there would be a CPU in its place and we wouldn't have this problem.

As for the samsquanches (continental opponent) it looks like they basically took last season off -- with only 4 wins on the year causing a ladder freefall.

Looks like there are 15 pro teams between Samsquanches and the bottom (of pro) with the worst being the re-named a good day to die with Jampy still at the helm and the owner inactive.

So - 15 pros intermingled with lots of journeyman and seasoned (and maybe even sophomores since jampy's team is so bad).

Yah but the rub is I did everything in my power to make that result happen without messing with depth charts or plays specifically spammed. In previous scrims as you saw it was a close matchup and that was my goal is to get it a RNG result that let the chips fall where they may, and frankly I think they got up early and just coasted the rest of the game.

I will say this, had I not manufactured this result, it would have been just like the other game where they played a pro team.

I will scrim the 2 teams again using the same gameplan for both teams and knowing both teams it will favor Drinkin as they are more built for this plan. So they in a competitive matchup should win, or even come close but my prediction is they lose by 21+

Yeah, and it's been a problem any time a new team is handed out that isn't Rookie. With the new matchup rules it will be a bigger problem if teams above Rookie continue to be given out once in a while - instead of starting with whatever the default starting ELO rating is, they should start with the average elo for all the teams of that tier as the "Best starting guess" for how good the team will be.

So... results are in... ass kicking handed.

Same exact gameplans and keep in mind this is a very weak Pro team.

So looks like we went 2-3 vs Journeyman teams...

and 1-1 vs Pro teams (with an asterisk next to Stobies win against himself)

Yup should have been 0-2 against Pro. Both of us had no chance!

yeah and ours was a heart breaker, we really should of won that game, MO is basically ripped from our defensive playbook vs 3+ WR sets I think haha

We lost a lot of ground playing an impossible to win game. Yours was not impossible.

We already made that backend change this season.

Hey corndog I thought these games were supposed to be at least a little fair. I would have rather played a much higher seasoned team then get my ass plunged in by a journeymen. Ffs
