Better pocket mobility. Able to scramble enough to avoid hurries and sacks, and also setup for a "non-moving" throw more often after having been flushed from the original passing spot.

Whether it's got any direct impacts on pass quality, I know as little as the next guy. I do know that it helps you keep yourself in the best possible spot in the pocket based on your pocket awareness though.

Do you actually know that? Because I guess I'm just not seeing that difference in the guys I'm using.

Time for you to run a footwork QB experiment?

I guess I could since you are the one running the drop back power experiment.

I don't think I have seen my S* QB move around in the pocket since rookie. When QBs do move around, it seems like it's always right into a pass rusher. I have footwork above 20 just for the quicker drops but who knows if it even does that.

I don't know it works any more than you know it doesn't work. I know Cleveland's looked a heck of alot better this season since we had him go to sometimes on his rollout frequency. We discussed that he was noticeably better back in the day when we originally had him make the modest investment in some footwork too.

Entirely possible that other stuff like pocket awareness has caused it though. Ya'll testers argued to keep the way skills work hidden from view, so none of us will ever know anything about how the game works.

That is what I mean though is have you seen actual results from adding footwork because I guess from my eye view I haven't really seen it do much. Then again I keep my QB's at never roll out frequency because of the best blitz's being OLB blitz so maybe that is why I am not seeing it.

Even at never, they still get shifted around by the rush. It's not like the QB just stands in one spot come hell or high water. More footwork lets them shift around better.

If you're looking for some sort of statistical breakdown of before and after, you're not going to get it. I don't have it. I can only say our QB was a better QB after adding modest footwork.

and fwiw, Cleveland seemed to be much better and deflected less often with rollout set to sometimes. I'm fairly certain he's moving to better spots to throw from for good angles more often. It was night and day before/after we set him to sometimes earlier this season.

I assume it's gotten us more hurries, and probably a few extra sacks, but it's been worth it on completion % increase, especially downfield to outside routes.
