Biggest gripe I have with my receiving TE are drops. Trying to figure out how to cut down on that.

At 60 hands and 60 passing tech on the QB, you're still going to have a bunch of drops. Something about the angles that TE's regularly have to catch passes at or something. They definitely drop more passes though. Look at the #1 HOF TE. He's a beast, but he still drops passes.

As for the advice given in the thread, here's my two cents:

Receiving Hands is primary

Sprinting/Quickness/Route Tech/Route Elusiveness are secondary

CiT/Receiving Grip/Receiving Awareness are tertiary

And of course, you'll want enough conditioning, toughness, and heart to manage your blue and green bars.

But that advice is based on the type of routes I have my TEs running. What skills your Offensive Coordinator needs you to pump depend heavily upon the plays they're calling.

I'm not saying they catch poorly. But they do deal with more drops than comparably built WRs.

Philip's caught nearly 60% of his targets. But he's dropped 17% too.

They drop more but they catch more.

So not sure where the problem is.

There's not a problem. Just giving out some numbers for the folks interested in Receiving TEs. Philip's dominating the HOF for TEs right now, so figured his situation would be interesting to discuss.

So Philip is thrown at a lot?

Since HOF is basically

QB - Pass attempts
HB - Rushes
WR/TE - targets
OL - Run team or not.

So basically his overuse could be cause of drops.

his drop rate was still high when not used as much too though.

Rec aware is most important IMHO. You cannot catch the ball if you don't see the ball.

My (Sophomore, wtf) rTE is the #5 TE in the HoF, so here are my two cents:

Route tech, quickness and receiving hands seem to be the most important. After that, work on the support skills for receiving. Sprinting is not so important. You can see his stats, he has 41 drops on 280 targets, but has no problem getting open. He does a good job of bringing in the ball most of the time (catches about 70% of the passes thrown his way).

Yeah...and you can't catch the ball if it hits you in the back of the head because you don't have enough rec awareness to turn around and look for the ball.

Obviously they are both important.
