Break Run Block + Balance + Hold Ground + Def Con + Momentum +

There are two ways to break a run block from what I have seen: Power and Technique.

Power (imo) = Hold Ground + Balance + Momentum + Def Con + Physical Skills to drive the body once engaged + Break Run Block (likely will help with the balance part of the interaction). You win by pushing the other bot backwards and knocking him off balance in order to knock him on his ass. Since Momentum is important in the initial balance calculation, weight and a good first step (think snap awareness, FS, Sprinting, Quickness) aren't something you want to ignore on a power engagement either. First Step and Unstoppable Force are likely going to be good SA choices for this, Shed Blocks doesn't seem to help with power moves, but Goal Line Stand will.

If the blocker is very technical, you might be able to win a power interaction, but unless you can match the technique, you might be thrown off balance and end up on your ass yourself.

Technique (imo) = Break Run Block + Balance + Footwork + awareness (maybe pursuit, maybe BA) + Def Con + Hold Ground (so that you aren't getting put off balance yourself by a power blocker). The side-to-side swim move to get through is how you beat the power blocker. You still need a reasonable amount of force to keep your feet, and good balance to continue to win the blocking roll while trying to go around instead of through the blocker. Shad Block SA is your best friend, but I think that going too far on physical skills will lead to pancakings.

Is this a joke to you?

No, it's an observation to me. It shouldn't be a joke to anyone tbqh. It's sad that you're even suggesting that.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, I haven't found any evidence that footwork and/or pursuit/blitz awareness have any impact on shedding blocks. Is this just a guess of yours because it makes sense, or have you seen it in action?

(Also, would you say the same things for pass rushing--replacing BRB and hold ground with the pass rushing skills of course?)

If you asked me the formula to breaking run blocks:

Break run block + Hold ground (Primary) + Balance + Quickness + toughness (secondary) Then I'd sprinkle in all the little things that help in the blocking interaction... Consistency (based on the situation + blitz awareness + footwork.

blend these together and in a perfect world you will break the run block. (IMO)
