the mid rookies have to play the bad sophomores...

dont like it? win, then you get the luxury of playing the top tier rookies lel.

Technically the mid-level rookies don't have to play the sophs. As Corndog stated, Bort implemented a preference for tiers to play the same tier in ladder. This means high ladder rookies prefer similarly or lower ranked rookies over similarly ranked sophs. So what ends up happening is high rooks match up with other high rooks. Then THe left over high rooks match with mid level rooks. Then mid level rooks match with other mid level rooks. Since some mid level rooks were matched with high level rooks, the left over mid rooks are matched with low level sophs, because that gap is smaller than the gap between mid and low level rooks.

It would be fixed if there was no preference for tier and everything was based strictly on ELO points. Then you would have the high level rooks getting low level sophs instead of dipping into the limited amount of mid level rooks for opponents.

That's what I just said without explaining it all out.

Just recently scrimmed a sophomore team by accident with my sub 30 ranked rookie team.

We only lost by 12 points. It is very possible to win with the right gameplan.

Naw, you said the mid level rookies have to play the sophs.

They don't and they shouldn't (unless there is some soph team that lost every single ladder and league game to have near the same amount of points as a mid rook team.)

idea: all sophomore teams ranking automatically in the 1000 range and rookies in the 2000 range. instead of going by hundreds we go by thousands and that solves the problem.

No, there's a problem specifically with the rank of the team in the OP, it's ranked too high. Don't worry, losing ladder games fixes it.

They have to play them for exactly the reason you explained out...

If they didn't want to face the awful Sophs they should win

Well, the rookie team is possibly ranked too high, but the sophomore team is (or was) definitely ranked too low.

if we're ranked too high the system is flawed.

I thought we already covered that.

you either need to dumb it down more, or smarten it up cuz I ain't getting it. the other option would be admitting you're wrong and I'm right.

so in order to play rookie teams, we have to beat sophomore teams? When will the top rookie teams start playing sophomore teams near their global tier?

If any rookie teams should be playing sophomore teams it should be the top-tier rooks, not mid-tier ones. How can a mid-tier rook team ever move up the ladder if they keep getting mismatched with far superior soph teams? All this system does is widen the gap between top rooks and mid rooks.

So it seems corny agrees the ladder is broken as he's stated that teams seem to often be misranked. (Which is the purpose of the ladder.) What's the solution?
