I remember screens in Pee Wee used to look like this on GLB1. The HB would catch the ball, but take forever to get up and run with it. Since I haven't played Pee Wee in ages, I can't attest to whether the passing buff fixed that or not.

Nope, PW screens take a bit of time for the dots to mature before they start being dangerous.

Yeah, I was LMAO when I first saw it. So far every screen play needs the combination of a crappy play call and a lot of luck. I've had a bunch where if the HB would have just caught the ball (yeah, they drop a lot of unhurried, soft lobs), it was an automatic TD. Felt like the game engine didn't want our team to score so easily.

lol does that really count as a working screen though? I mean there was only one guy on the right side of the field. the rest of the blockers never touched anyonw

That's why screens are broken imo. The blockers are way too far ahead and the front two are usually in the secondary and never get close to even looking for someone to block before the back gets tackled.
Like I said, crappy defensive call + luck = broken screens actually netting yards sometimes.

Screens aren't supposed to be an every down play, though.

but the only feasible way to make them work (and even this is unproven) is to build your team specifically for the screen pass
