Same here, back after missing about the last 2 years. Head is spinning, wondering what to do with points they give you, do you spend them right away or wait like the old days?

There's no reason to wait. Spend them as you get them. Auto-Level gains and capbuilding the way it was done in GLB1 aren't existant anymore. You determine your skill maximums and cost to increase at player creation up front now.

GLB2 - it's like GLB1, but without the counterintutive stuff, and without half the ways to shoot yourself in the foot.

Its like GLB1 the way it used to be and the way bort wanted it to be before he caved to every forum outcry and created someone elses game.

This version seems much simpler.
Let's see how this fares after 2 weeks of playing.

Confused on how these work
From the FAQ - How do I earn a superstar player?
Every time you have a player complete a career tier, you earn 1 point toward the appropriate superstar bar on your home page. When a bar fills up, you can create a superstar player of that type. You cannot have more than 1 of each type of superstar at a time, and you do not earn superstar points in the associated type while you have a superstar player of that type.

Well that's not true. Building was always pretty much the way it is in glb1 it is just that it mostly took until plateau for people to start learning the most efficient methods.

I had a great time with the first few seasons of GLB, but I ended up spending more and more time trying to hit the moving uprights, and less and less time enjoying the game. I'm already impressed with the lack of clutter and tacked on features that the original GLB became, this seems to be a much more focused and accessible game. And since i had a ton of flex doing nothing, thought I might put it to work.

2 years? I think I've got that covered...and some. Got the e-mail, thought I'd look around. Not sure I want to get sucked back in though...
