Game planning and scouting tips. (this is what I do anyway) (I will lose in the playoffs now because I am putting it all out there....lol)

1) Don't tag a player by archtype. Look at their stats. Some people like to use a RQB to do nothing but pass and someone else might use a deep passer archtype and make him a scrambling QB. Tag the player based on how he is used.

2) I like to click on the TE's players "Game Log" link. I will then look at their last 3,4 or 5 games just to see if he is used in both the pass game and run game. If the offense passes 100% of the time using a particular TE than I tag him to where I use my 100% pass defense. If that TE is used in both the run and pass game than I don't tag him at all and allow my "balanced defense" to be used.

3) I then look to see if a team always runs the ball to where their blocking TE is at. Take the Big I and S-Back Big formations where those damn counter plays kill you. If they always run the counter to the side where the blocking TE is than I will create a special defensive play and tag that TE so I can try and shut down that play. I did that against TazVikes a few times. They always ran the counter to their blocking TE side

4) I then use the GLB Scout Tool and I look at what my opponent does from each formation. A lot of people have tendencies and don't even realize it. If I see a team only pitches the ball from a certain formation than I will create a specific defensive play to be used so it eliminates a pitch when in that formation. I look at each and every formation and if they do a good job of run and pass from a formation than I use my "Balanced Defense". If I see a tendency than I create a play to remove that tendency.

My game plan on offense:

There is such a HUGE buff to the passing game at low levels and its so damn hard to run consistently that this is what I do:

2nd down and 0-5 yard I run the ball up the gut 100% of the time. Any scouting will show you this but I say "this is what I am doing so try and stop me!"

3rd and 0-4 run up the gut

3rd and 4-100 I use passing packages

100% of all 1st and 2nd downs (except 2nd 0-5 yards) I pass the ball.

Now....the QB tactics such as OPEN MAN and Route Distance plays a HUGE role!! You have to adjust these settings as your players level up. Right now I use -70 bullet passing because I want the ball to get to the WR before the CB can react and it allows the WR to try and make a move to get more yards. I use -75 OPEN MAN. But I just recently switched to these settings because I got the Catching on my WR's high enough that the drops from such a bullet pass are low enough that its worth doing it that way.

I'm glad you posted this whodey. Believe it or not I have been thinking about doing something like this for about 3 weeks now but hesitated because some people get upset when experienced owners reach back to help agents with less experience. I know this because I was put under the microscope when Gerr helped me. I have opened my builds and no I'm no expert dot builder but the intent is to give agents with less experience a model to follow to help them become more competitive when playing in Gold. I have an idea to post " How To " tips but I'll wait until the off season before I start. Thanks again whodey. I struggled against tough teams until someone decided to reach back and help me.

How fun would it be if there were more than 3 or 4 good matchups per season because people have a better idea of how to build. I am glad you opened your builds too man

Whodey has been a great help to me over the last couple of seasons taking his time explaining Pee Wee to me. Sad to see you go Whodey and thanks for the help you provided myself and my buddies on East-West!

I think the biggest issue our team has is the offensive/ defensive AI. Would love to pick someone's mind on how to improve. Granted, I think our defensive AI is better then OAI.

I will make another post tomorrow sometime and layout my DAI in case it helps others as well.

Thanks to both of you for posting your builds, it makes for some insightful reading. You're definitely right about speed hurting the CB's, LB's etc.

thanks once again

No problem man. More speed causes them to backpedal too fast and can't react to the WR stopping on a dime and it can cause your LB's to over pursue the ball carrier or run into the Oline too fast on inside runs and get blocked. A little slower and that Olineman goes to double team a Dlineman and your LB is right there to make the 1.5 or 2 yard stop. Makes a difference where their starting position is in your custom defensive play as well.

Lol, in order to do that, will have to boost all our players and have CEQ's. That may not happen, we're poor folk However, it won't stop us from trying to have a winning season and remain in gold since Silver is boring and not challenging.

This will hurt more than it will help...All of the new guys in here checking it out will just copy it, which will lead to them not really learning anything. It would be better to just give out tips or answer questions about defense in general. Maybe even make a dumbed down version of your DAI like Gerr has done in the past and teach people how to build their own from that.

I don't agree with this. Believe me, it helps to turn terrible teams into decent ones, but you can't become a great team without getting everything working together. Also, I learned off of someone else's AIs and DPC plays as well (you're the best jxgator), and I think it worked out okay.

there is much more to coordinating a team than what whodey is explaining with his posts ...I don't feel threatened

team structures, gear allocations and AIs help to make a team successful ...i think it will be entertaining to see how others build teams for next season

...lemme just say this guys, whodey doesn't know the perfect script ...it is up to you guys to experiment and find out the best formulas to use! ...it's a trial and error thing, if coordinators treat whodeys advice as gospel then pretty soon those guys will find themselves left behind the times! ...use this advice and build onnit from your own experiments and experiences

AI and OSIRIS showed me there AI's back in the day. I've since made changes to work with my builds. It's nice to have a Template to start with.

To be honest when I first started AI (bgw1) offered up his AI's and I refused his help. After 2-3 seasons of getting pounded i finally accepted the help. I know Jackson has some great templates as well to get started with.

I'd open my Non-Boosted builds but I would just confuse people. I'm doing some semi experimental builds this season just to see if they will actually work.
