And round one is in the books. Let's get down to the results shall we?
It sure didn't pay to be a home seed in Alpha. #5-#8 scored wins all around.
Benin vs. BEEF
BEEF came out swinging out of the gates with punch right into the heart of the Republic. But an end of the half INT set a slower pace for the BEEF leading to them holding on for dear life. After Benin secured the tie it was up to Martevious Young and BEEF Tebow to come to the rescue. They led a 2 minute, 85 yard drive to secure the win and send BEEF to another day of dotballin.
SSM vs. Royals
After a frustrating first quarter Richey finally got on the board and never collapsed. The Mafia had one final chance to make something happen with just over 5 minutes left to play but PSY was unable to hit that scrub Oath Keeper for a first down ending the drive with a punt. The Royals then secured a victory by running out the clock.
This bring a round 2 matchup between Omaha BEEF and Richey Royals. Their last meeting wasn't even close by any stretch but this could be a different BEEF if round 1 was any indication. It should be a good game to watch imo.
Clash vs. Warriors
Carthage couldn't punch it into the endzone until it was too late but Reggie Ball did his best to keep the game close with 3 of the 5 interceptions thrown to the defense. HHWC gained the lead mid 3rd quarter on a TD from Ball to Skye, but Carthage did answer with another FG to give them a brief lead after that. From there the Warriors notched a FG of their own and eventually a TD to seal the deal with just under 5 minutes left.
Duckies vs. OPT
The Duckies defense got obliterated to the tune of 700+ yards. Not really much to say about this game outside of ugh...Riggins, Sizzle, and Cursino lead the way for OPT and just never could be stopped.
This leads to a showdown of run vs. pass. The 5 time WL champions survived a former champion. Now can they survive this highly talented group of runners? The last team left in the playoffs with gold.gif experience. Who will deny them a 6th?
Meanwhile over in Zeta, things went almost as planned.
Dogs vs. Padre
Thirsty thursday just isn't gods day. And the Dogs wiped their paws all over the Parrish in this one. An almost perfect day of passing and a solid rushing attack will be hard to stop.
Mice vs. DEAD
Yikes the Mice never showed up for this match. The only technical upset of round 1 zeta conference. They call them the "undead" for a reason. Never take your eyes off them bastards for a second. 8 sacks and 2 ints. The Mice just fell apart and fell hard.
So will the Walking Dead be able to keep up with the Dogs? Their last showdown was reasonable. There is no reason to think this matchup won't be a close one. Disa is on top of his game though so it will be a tough one for Plankton and crew.
Grand Banks vs. SCM
This was supposed to be a defensive showdown between a pair of crafty veterans but somewhere along the way things got hazy. Steel set the tone with the first points but GBB came storming back with a pair of td's themselves. Banks held an ok lead for the most part until the Mafia put the hit out. A surprise comeback netted the Steel with a 2 point lead with just over 7 minutes to play. A 17 point swing. Mafia even got the ball back with the lead and 4 minutes to play. But they played it safe instead of going for the jugular and that is where the carnage began. Facing 3rd and 10 on his own 22, Rico Dynamite fired deep to Rocket Man for a 46.5 yard strike through the air. A pair of jd's favorite plays and a Bronson 3rd down conversion later, the Bluenoses notched up the win with a game ending FG to move on.
Hogs vs. Mojo
The multi time former champs never really got going after tying the game up early in the second quarter. Wise and the gang just stepped on the pedal and never looked back. Multiple turnovers by the Mojo made it a near impossible feat. One step closer to the goal is Wise and ghuff is left empty handed in s37.
This brings us to the marquee matchup of round 2. A battle of mouth diarrhea for the kids. Walls of text will be had and excuses will be a plenty. Can't wait!
