This one may be an even better example.

The difference in the depth of the LOT and the ROT is very noticable. LOT has 11 FS.

I am seriously considering removing my FS AE for our next game to see if my LOT performs better.

On an OT without FS. Think we're more talking about how it's coded than FS making them drop futher.

If jd was a tester he could simulate a ton of games, same builds in all cases, but give the OTs 10 first step half the time and 0 first step the rest of the time.

As long as he got someone else to do the statistical analysis for him, this would be a surefire way to determine if first step was a problem or not.

Are there any testers anymore?

I don't see where the OT's are dropping back 'too far' either with or with out
FS. There are times when either the LOT or ROT will drop back further than
their opposite, but there are always defenders trying to speed rush and this
deep drop seems appropriate to me.

Not a bug in my opinion.

Thread delivers.

Really awesome back-and-forth between Truth and JD... they manage to tell each other "oh yeah? well, screw you" repeatedly while remaining adult and professional... all GLB threads should be so lucky. Kudos to Truth for professionalism and good customer service AND to JD for sticking to his guns on an issue he obviously feels strongly about. Thanks to both for setting a great example for others.

It's a combination of both. We already established that guards & centers do not have First Step fire on the snap in pass protection, probably because they're not allowed to drop back as far as tackles do. You're correct that guys without First Step who have relatively high speed still see this occur, it's just not as common or drastic. First Step makes the ridiculously deep drop happen more often and to a worse degree. Now that the DPC doesn't allow the incredibly wide DE splits, maybe Bort can adjust the drop depth. But I need to know if this is working as intended before wasting my time on a Suggestions thread.

JD --

Two Bug Mods have come to the conclusion that is is not a bug. It will take a 3rd to make a final determination.

Not from my perspective. I'm posting this and the examples supporting it because that's the process we users have been required to follow. There is a frustratingly long history of bugs mods insisting that I'm wrong about something being a bug, only for it to be confirmed as a bug later on, which is why I'm loath to make these anymore. In this case I don't know for certain whether it's a bug or if this is intended, since it could be what Bort intended. That's why I was hoping to get feedback either from him or for someone familiar with the pass blocking code as to which it is.

Think about it, how many users have done more than me over the length of the game to discover problems with the sim, their causes, and the potential solutions? Stop acting high and mighty as if I shouldn't dare question the edicts you guys issue. You know my history, and you know that I'm not posting things just because I'm bored. Please swallow the ego and ask Bort if this is working as intended: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1780103&pbp_id=1586258
