Team Power Rankings
Tripoli 145.23
Sahara 00.00
Zambia 00.00
Zimbabwe 00.00
West Virginia 00.00
Toros 00.00
West Nile 00.00
Salty 00.00
Charlie 00.00
Gambia 00.00
Morningside 00.00
Algeria 00.00
Burundi 00.00
Monterey 0.00
Ethiopian 0.00
Zulu -45.56

I only made it thru 15 units of community college so it might have some holes. Let me know if you find any.

I suppose a pm would've worked better than a post.. point being using the same formula with an adjustment that accounts for the entire data set seems like a decent idea..

Interesting.

Without going into a statistics class lecture, using just two points of data to make generalizations about a data set (high and low scores) tells you nothing about all the in betweens, using a standard deviation or squaring that number (variance) is a better method to illustrate the dispersion in the data.

Using an alteration of the range (high score - low score), would be similar to using the mode (most frequent observation) to define the data's central tendency.

I get paid to do make statistical analysis of data. Its my daytime job.

The fact is, the sample size is so small and pretty much every power rankings an individual comes up with on his own, without knowing the coding behind the scenes (formulas that generate the plays, etc)....

I enjoy reading peoples analysis though, thats why I said interesting.

The forumula I am using was off the website listed below. I loved the power rankings of Heath Leaf, those are by far some of the best work I have seen. I am not joking, it did make me laugh.

As far as Sticky, I don't know who would do that, I don't have the Africa Mod Rights in here. I think it is a great idea, so my "Power Rankings after Week X" forums to clog it all up. I think the ESPN 3A2 Predicitons should be stickied as well. Those are great breakdowns of the conference.

and sorry, I'm not willing to work it out every game

From http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=336156

Regardless, I don't do statistical Analysis. I am a Microsoft Office Genius, I see a formula and break it down in a excel sheet so i have to do as little work as possible to get the formula to just POOF pop up. I then paste the results back into the forums. I have seen variations throughout the forums that do take different things into account. But for the data given us and how i can get it/put it into the excel sheet, i am doing a lot of leg work after each game right now.

Don't get me wrong, if another formula is what we want to use then let me know I will chop it up in an excel sheet.

The Rankings I post are purely from the numbers, NOT my analysis.

I think we should go with slash's power ranking. He's amazing, helped me with one of my satirical essays too.

It's the same formula as from your lacrosse site.. except with a minor change.

The equation is something like 6* mean score + 2* (deviation (high+low score) + (Win %* 200) *2 divided by 10.

Their way of representing deviation is short sighted in it's approach, I just used Excel to compute the Standard deviation, and used that instead of (high + low) which is essentially a range. It's not that difficult I just keep the file in excel and all I have to do is insert the scores each week.

I may try to add to the formula to add some sort of "strength of schedule" adjustment, but I'm not sure how I can do it..

I'm thinking maybe adding the top half of the equation by some number.. I haven't decided how much strength of schedule should play into the rankings.. What does everyone think?

How strong should the strength of schedule variable be?

As of right now :

Average Per Game ~ 39%
Variance In Scoring ~ 11%
Winning % ~51 %

Of the totals.. Do we make Strength of Sched worth about 5-6% or should it be as much as variance?
