So would it be: Kicking, Confidence, and Strength... as the primary attributes. Since kickers are not in the game that much, would Stamina be not as important? Just train it only?

yup, just train stamina

Vision is overrated. I've researched some excellent kickers and punters out there who don't put any points towards their Vision.

Take a look for yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about (or you can keep dumping your SP into Vision and stunt your progress, it's your choice).

I've noticed this as well. I'm still going to train it, but it is lower on my list.

Hell I haven't even trained or raised stamina at all, it's still 8 and I'm level 14, and I play on intense and get by with mid-70s energy even after a busy game.

The ONLY kickers that need to worry about stamina are...

a) Kickers on a great offense with a crap defense. They are gonna see a lot of PT and their points are needed. Can't afford those missed FG's and XP that result from getting winded. Last season, my K (8 stamina) was perfect on XP's because we averaged about 10 points/game. This season we are up in the 30's and I've already missed three XP. Of course, at this point last season I hadn't even attempted three XP! Of course, our defense is rocking, so I'm not really worried about it (yet).

b) Kickers that are concerned about their stats for the sake of perfect stats. The more you play with a low stamina, the more you will miss.

About right, although Agility just sneaks ahead of Speed for me.

Confidence is much more important than strength.

To further this discussion, what's the best allocation of skill points to work on range? Our kicker is doing well, since he hasn't missed anything inside of 40 yards, but outside of 40 he is 1/7. Here's his build

Strength: 30.84 Blocking: 9
Speed: 12.03 Tackling: 8
Agility: 12.03 Throwing: 12.03
Jumping: 12.03 Catching: 10
Stamina: 10 Carrying: 7
Vision: 28.18 Kicking: 60.53
Confidence: 35 Punting: 10

3 > 4 > 4 in the kicking tree

I figure this will be helpful not just for me, but anyone building a kicker who needs more range.

Considering this build (not mine, obviously):
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=241174

I'd say more confidence. Guy has less strength and less than half your vision, and is 5/7 this year from 40+ and 12/16 lifetime.

but also look to this players SA tree. He has one more in each, which I think has contributed heavily to his success.

Here's my list, and the reasoning behind it:
1.) Kicking- Where most of your accuracy comes from- first thing I am doing is getting it up to base 49.
2.) Strength- How else do you expect to make 50+ FGs if you don't have 40+ Strength?
3.) Confidence- Helps you concentrate better
4.) Vision- I am training mine to 30, and then MAYBE putting some SP into it
5.) Stamina- After all the above have been done, train your stamina to 15 and never worry about it again!
6.) Speed- Being able to catch up and possibly make a game saving tackle
7.) Agility/Jumping/Tackling- All equally not very important.

You all can look at my K- he is sitting the whole year so that he has 49 kicking and 27 strength and can start and contribute to his team next season.

EDIT- People should FIRST get their kicking and strength up to the levels I mentioned before worrying about SA's in my book.

interesting reasoning coachb05. i'm curious though, why wouldn't you swap the order of training for confidence and strength? as oldskool showed in the build above, you can regularly make 40 yarders with little strength but a lot of confidence. why not focus on being deadly accurate first, and then building up strength so you can make them from longer and longer? i'd rather have a kicker that could make all of the easy kicks and then get progressively longer than a kicker that can kick of long but is not accurate. otherwise i agree with your list.

My kicker struggled with kicks over 40 yards last season. At the end of the year, I boosted him 3 levels, added all 15 points to STR and have hit 4 for 4 from 40+ this season...including two 50 yarders.

My confidence hasn't changed. Thus I would rank STR over CONF. It doesnt matter how much CONF you have, it you don't have STR, you won't make the long kicks.

I've also had 6-7 touchbacks this season. Something I didn't have last season with 15 less STR.
