They should have just made a best of the best team selection to begin with. It's no different than the current system in that some teams that weren't picked have a great case for why they should be here, and if they didn't take the top 4 from each league, those teams that didn't make it wouldn't have had as strong as an argument for why they should be here. Especially when a few of the teams aren't quite close to a few others that didn't get picked.
And then the problem could be compounded if say there's a couple of weak teams in Alpha that give teams in that conference some high scoring gut-games, so again the statistical logic of things will be off kilter and not something that you can compare from one conference to another (which just throws off realism and fun for many). It's just extending the mess that has always been present instead of using the WPL creation as an opportunity to set things up logically, and then filter that logic down the ladder. Oh well.
