I had a 2 year contract that did not include training for my first enlistment. So that turned out to be a little over 2.5 years. When I got out I went directly to the Army National Guard for another 2 years. So it was a little over 4 years. So from late 93 to early 96 I was in the Army and from early 96 to 98 I was in the Army National Guard.

I might have even met you before Angry.

I was with 11 Marines Artillery at Camp Pendleton from 96-2000. We did joint field OPS with MLRS units from Ft Sill out in 29 Palms twice a year.

We used to always screw with the Army guys

Is that how the Tossers got their name? I always wondered.

Camp Pendleton sounds pretty far south but I can't be sure. I never went any further south than Camp Casey. I was at Camp Essayons and Camp Stanley for my year in Korea. I never been to ft Seal as I was not a 13B or any 13 series. I spent my last year at FT Bliss with the 3rd ACR before they moved to FT Carson. Then I joined the Army National Guard for the bonus and went home. At the time they were giving nice bonuses to any enlisted soldier that was ETS.

The Defenestration of Prague was one the direct cause of the Thirty Years' War, a religious war in the 1600s. Defenestration is the act of throwing someone out of a window.

The team name is basically just an allusion to the historical event.

I think the Argonauts are pretty self-explanatory, as everyone is familiar with the Golden Fleece, etc.

I went w/ East Cairo because it sounded cool when you put Argonauts after it.

Ummm...yeah. That's about it. Not very exciting.

Fun factoid: The East Cairo Argonauts were only a few votes away on the team forum from being called the Southerplayalistic Cadilliac Funky Riders.
Fun factoid continued: Okay the voting wasn't that close, but SCFR did get one vote from an agent who will remain anonymous.

We went over names for a couple of days and finally decided on Manticores. When looking up information on the mythical beast we found they were suppose to have originated close to Mount Vesuvius. So we put the names together and it flowed pretty well. We then called our stadium the Pompeii Ampitheater which was destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted and killed everyone in Pompeii.

And get destroyed when you are forced to play in the steamy hot confines of Argonauts Stadium in East Cairo, Egypt.
