eB1, great job. I think the formula seems appropriate. I'll take a closer look when I have more time.
Another way to do this is to use the RPI formula:
The Index comprises that team's winning percentage (25%), its opponents' winning percentage (50%), and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents (25%).
I am not an "excel programming guy" but it seems as if this could easily be loaded into a spreadsheet and then the scores added after the games. I have no idea how to do that, but may spend (waste) some time on it this weekend if it rains here.
Nice job, brother.
Yeah, I considered tweaking the values of the categories used but that makes it less objective (if you value one thing higher than another). But hey, that's absolutely debatable. I'd love for someone to pick this up and run with it. If you'd like the actual excel spreadsheets that I used, PM where to send them. Right now, it's just way too much to input.
As far as this being a joke or somebody wondering why they are ranked lower or higher than they think they are, this is based on pure stats of the three categories that I've been hearing that are important to people. Record, Scoring (how much a team beats an opponent) and Opponent Quality. If you want something a bit more subjective, then we should just take an opinion poll every week.
