We got an ass beating today ;(

The Hoplites just destroyed us. Hey guys, why didn't you put your backups to start this game??

I don't need anyone to answer for me, but I took it the way I did. Possibly he should have expanded on his thoughts. Without facial expressions and voice tones and body language, sometimes it is indeed hard to tell what a person means from just typing something on a board.

That would have been disrespectful. Who do you think we are, the Dungeoneers?

GreenPez Look at what was said and explain to me how that is not a jab at the Dungeoneers?

Ill break it down for you.

Hubedi says why didnt you start your back ups.
Jabes says That is disrespectful, we aren't the dungeoneers.
Thats the basics of it.

Lets pretend starting your back ups is A and disrespectful is B and the Dungeoneers are C and the hoplites are D.

According to Jabes A is B so
A = B.

We get two things from his second statement.

Hoplites are not disrepsectful, and the dungeoneers started their backups. soo

D did not do B
C did do B
Therefore we can conclude that according to Jabes
that doing A = B and since C did A C is B.
or
Since starting your backups is disrespectful and the Dungeoneers started their backups they are disrespectful.

Perhaps he meant to say something different but this is how it came out or maybe he meant what he said?

no, i can see that it would be taken that way. i'm just saying i dont think he meant it that way. (i honestly dont know, i havent talked to him about it) i really think it was two independant thoughts that happened in the same paragraph.

but, like i said, i dunno, i'm not him. he hasnt said anything remotely like that before (even in private forums) so i'd have no reason to think he'd start now.

as an aside, it's fairly ironic that you'd take such exception to a *possible* jab at the Dungeoneers and in the same breath take a jab at at least 3 other teams in your conference.

How did I take a jab at anyone in the conference? Please explain this to me?

well, i'll break it down for you, without getting into equations.

you said 'sour grapes from the 3rd best team in the conference' intimating that your team is #2 after your recent loss. which is all fine and good, and clearly a jab. i wouldnt declare my superiority to another team without playing them first, that's just me.

i would also think the other two teams that beat you would have something to say about whether you are better than them or not.

but maybe YOU meant something different when you said it, care to ellaborate?

I said conference. Sorry I meant league. If I am not mistaken you are the 3rd best team in the league based on record, no?

I believe we did start our backups for a game and we still juggle the lineup from game to game. We're made up of a number of people who have known each other for years and we created a team for all of us to play on. Some folks (like me) were in early, so made a bunch of players to fill holes while we gathered more of our friends together. Some of those 'filler' players have starting positions with the intent to phase them out to 'backups' as the 'Backups' get more experience and can start more regularly.

We thus place all sorts of people as starters or backups just to give folks playing time and experience and to keep it fun.

If we play you, and you see a different line up, no disrespect is intended from the Dungeoneers to your organisation. Its just us trying to keep everyone involved enjoying their game.

This is all of course my own take on it. I'll defer to the Owner and GM's if they decide to say the intent is actually to disrespect you.

ah, so you see how it might be easy to mis-speak then?

based on the power rankings yes, we're 3rd. They dont mean a whole lot with various teams/players boosting at various times tho(not that i dont appreciate the work that goes into making them! they're as good as you really can do without going nuts over them).

in any event, i've been looking at the end of our schedule for a while now and anticipate hard battles there. For now though, I cant look past Leningrad this week and hope our D can put up another strong performance.

I'm always switching my O-Line a bit, I want all my players to close gap level wise. So I start "backups" or "2nd-string" if thats what you want to call it. *shrugs*

Surely you can look just a little bit...

BTW we dropped our beer prices to a $1. It helped keep our fans from demanding refunds after the last team tore up the place.

LOLB comes out every time you go into coverages that require a third corner. To LOLB gets less snaps in general.

The Dungeoneers rotate lower level folks in to our starting line up with the specific intent of disrespecting other teams. We have an entire series of sticky threads on our forum entitled "How to disrespect XXXX" where XXXX is the name of our next opponent. We stay online for hours and hours talking about the best ways to make us seem pompous, arrogant and generally unlikable. We're currently working on a way to not only play backups, but to also have our starters sleep with the other team's cheerleaders. We'll let you know when this gets worked out.
