What can I say Dirk. I'm irresistible to people who have a strong case of the gays.

Denial - a defense mechanism postulated by Sigmund Freud, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.
Please use the word in a sentence.
Lionsfan is in denial about Detroit sucking ass even though multiple, credible, sources have pointed to this being a fact.
I'll use it in a sentence...
Scotty2Hotty is in denial that the team he is on is a piece of shit, even though credible sources have pointed to this being a fact
wow how original. So you have some gay thing going for him or something? Scotty2Hotty?
I remember the name from my younger days when that guy was a wrestler....

Great, but the gay reference had no relevance to this conversation. It's the beginning of you coming out of the closet

Flint's been in the shitter since the auto industry ran into its first troubles back in the early 90's. See Michael Moore's "Roger & Me" for an explanation.
Rather than laughing at the natives of that city, have sorrow for them. That's a terrible situation and there's little anyone can do to "right that ship" right now.
Detroit's had it's political scandals but in reality, it's rebuilding and doing so at a decent pace. Get off your ass and go downtown and experience Campus Martius (out door ice skating like Central Park in NY), 3 major casinos, 3 great sports franchises all within 3 miles of each other, and a gorgeous riverfront shared with Windsor, Ontario which has some of the best strip clubs (and Casino Windsor) in the midwest.

Good for Detroit. No one is wishing failure for Detroit, no one wants to see that city fall under its own weight. No one is laughing at them either; were just laughing at Lionsfan. If they're rebuilding, great. Maybe they will be a great city at some point in the future. But when someone comes in here and chirps about how Detroit is one of the greatest American cities.....
Also, all of those attractions you listed are easily topped by many other cities in the US. But, no one expects Detroit to compete with real tourism cities

I live a hour south of Minneapolis and other than the winter and taxes it's alright. Bottom line is that winters suck up here. I can be just as broke in a warm climate and still golf most of the year.
