It is meant for this reason. Álso to give the forum something else to debate. A dead forum makes for a dead league and I am glad Ig is doing this again and also that you are doing your Zeta write ups.
I like the contrast. The personal write ups have 1 feel and then Jays have a statistical view. i looking at both and having a comparison rather than just one persons write up. You get tw different looks, points of view, and presentation. Might be a nice debate near seasons end.

UPCOMING GAMES OF THE WEEK
Alpha Conference
Amsterdam at Fareham - With both teams at 5-1, this was the no-brainer Alpha Game of the Week for me (but Honorable Mention goes to Hamburg at Black Country after the Knights win vs. Toulouse). This looks to be the first ever meeting between the Admirals and Demons who are both a TD or less from being undefeated (don't worry, the Vols hope to get some revenge for both of you this week). As I'm new to the league I don't know much about either team, but I expect a close one. Line: Demons by 2 (I'll give them the home field advantage).
Zeta Conference
Helsinki at Vatican City - Another clear winner--in my mind--for Game of the Week honors. The Crabs rebounded after their sole loss of the season in Week 5 to get on the winning track again, while the Popes dropped a game against the Tilburg buzzsaw. This is one of the most intriguing games for me as I want to see just how good the Crabs are. The 5-1 record is itself impressive, but I can't ignore that those five wins came against teams with a combined three wins, and the loss was to a 2-win team. I know the Crabs are a dangerous team and one that can't be taken lightly, and the next two weeks should give us a better idea of just how the Crabs stack up in Zeta. As for the Popes, I can't say that their schedule has been overly difficult, but the games against Tilburg and Belfast (both losses) definitely give them the schedule strength to justify the lower record. Just going by gut instinct--and their margin of victory and record against common opponents--I have to give the nod to Vatican City. Line: Popes by 6.

Funny how the statistics work out. I will note that the weightings I'm using this season give more weight to strength of schedule and to quality wins than in past seasons, and those are the factors that ended up making the difference this week.
Here's the short of why it happened (not that anyone cares for the details, but I'll give them anyway). Since Munich and Rennes both beat previously undefeated teams, that ended-up as basically a wash. What did hurt Munich is that the rankings factor in all the teams previously played, and Munich's past opponents had a bad week, with only one past opponent getting a win (Rennes past opponents got three wins). The real kicker, however, is that Rennes also picked up a "quality win" that gave them an extra 0.125 points. I'm not totally satisfied with how "quality wins" are currently calculated, but basically, if a team beats someone with the same or a better record, they get an additional 0.125 for each such win. Since Rennes and Düsseldorf now have the same record, they picked up a quality win. Since Munich has no losses, they can't get any "quality wins." Coupled with Rennes' already higher strength of schedule, it was enough to bump Munich from the top Alpha spot.
It's little consolation, but I'm looking at changing the quality win computation, but have to find time to do it since the preferred way to correct it will probably add some complexity. The quality win factor was put in initially to help make the difference when two teams with the same record have played each other, and to try and boost the winning team to its probably rightful spot above the losing team. As here, it can also have the unintended consequence of boosting a team with more losses over a team with a better record but no "quality wins." I think the value currently given to quality wins is probably about 40-50% too high, so I may just change that for now (which would also keep Munich in the top spot). What I'd prefer to do is create a graduated scale for wins so that a win over a team with a slightly worse record (difference of 1-2 games) still gets a quality win value, while wins over teams with the same record, wins over teams with a slightly better record (again a 1-2 game difference), and wins over teams with a significantly better record (a 3+ game difference) each get increasingly high quality win values. Those have other consequences too, but it may be better than the current system.

Rennes and Toulouse are both nasty teams. Judging based on Rennes' average level and their play so far this season, they could be a playoff team in WEPL. Their starters outlevel us by like 2-3 at least, that looks like the game of the year right now. Circle week 13 on your calendars.
