Come on guys...I know you are upset about the loss and I would be too...everyone hates losing! But you know what, the WR screen is NOT a bug and can be defended for a loss, as long as you put a play in there to do it. Look at the Strong I off tackle, for a while it was unstoppable, now it's second nature to put a defense in to stop it. Although I have nothing to do with our play calling, I have no problems with our team calling that play...especially since had you put the defense in for it, it would have been our detriment!!
Anyway, good luck to you guys too, you have a good team and hope you can respect a team that game planned around your awesome defense...you already proved we had to get creative to get a win..and when we do, you get upset. This game is all about out-thinking the opponent when it gets to this level and I think our OC did this time. Anyway, I hope you take something positive from the game and not be quite as bitter. Like I said, it's just a play, is easily stoppable and in my opinion, not an exploit other than not everyone has done their research to prepare for it.
okay.
if you defend the WR screen it requires you putting 3 men on that side of the field over there far left.
yes, that works, and it does create a loss situation on that play.
problem is to do it you have to run a 4-1, or a 3-2... a 3-1 is most effective.
NOW, what do all of those pformations have in common?
anyone?
anyone at all?
HB smash will utterly destroy every one of those for about 8-12 yards.
I'm not going to get into an argument with anyone, it's just pointless...I'm not even a coordinator for the team...but I just can't not put out my point. It isn't an exploit, it's a freaking video game...and with that you have positives and negatives. This game is more about game planning and good luck. Tell me ANY first person shooter game, where you don't notice people using "pick a weapon" forever until people figure out how to do better...then it's used like the rest of the weapons. Anwyay, the WR screen is TOUGH to defend...and I know because I have spent a lot of time studying it and game planning against it.
At the same time, yes the HB slam is tough to defend at the same time but not impossible! You just have to be creative there too, but again, that opens up another play...say a HB screen because you are committing so many guys to those 2 plays.
Anyway, you can go on forever with this argument. And I would bet you any amount of money, that if we ran that same game plan tomorrow against them, they would lay the smack down on us...why because it isn't a surprise at this point...however something else may be...and it's up to you as either a DC or OC to "trick" the other team into a win. If this game was all about nothing but player builds and luck, why even have tactics, they would be pointless...To me this game is a tactical blessing...have you never played a game where one team has the #1 running offense in the league and the opposition is just a bit better, therefore the running team passes 80-90% of the game? Yes it's a little different, but still is a tactical surprise. Who expected us to come out and throw the WR screen 40% of the plays? That's my point, not that the WR screen is an "exploit" as people like to say.
You say it's impossible to defend it...I disagree and would be happy to say, lets scrimmage Maribor in the off season, tell them we are going to throw the WR screen 40% and HB slam 40% with a nice 20% mix of whatever...Do you think we beat them? If the play is SO impossible to stop, your answer has to be YES, we would still win.
Anyway, I am done with the argument. Maribor, if you guys are offended by the play (which it doesn't seem you are, but maybe) I am sure our owner will happily apologize about it. If it was another team that has a problem with it, I was TS and get a life...and I hope we beat you with some other play that you won't expect so you can whine about it some more!!! As far as I am concerned our OC was a tactical genious...simply because it WAS totally unexpected and we ALL know we won't get away with running that play again....but it was still an awesome win by him in my eyes!
