Barbarian Horde was the result of a brainstorming session between mpowell and myself, starting out with no core group of players we were trying to decide on something that would stand out, make ourselves attractive to potential recruits.

That may be true, I can see Russia from my bathroom window.
When I decided to buy a team, I'm usually really bad at picking out names. I thought it would be good to find a name of a team people would hate to lose to. I thought it would be funny to have some kind of mascot that is not so imposing. One of my good friends always liked Ewoks, so I decided to go with it. Looking into Ewoks more to figure out where to be from, I found out the name of the Ednor to the Ewoks is called Tana. There is a Tana River up in Alaska. I thought it just fit nice together and the Tana River Ewoks were born.
As for the Huskers Illustarted Bugeaters, it was created from a bunch of guys off the Huskers Illustrated forums. There were already teams named Huskers and Blackshirts. Bugeaters was a nickname for Nebraska pre 1900's. The name was adopted by Canes.
Wait, so how is it that you roll on both teams? And are you from Alaska?

Interesting that the Horde was built from scratch when so many teams here came from a core group elsewhere.

Hah, wow. The logo illustrates such ideals in simple, yet stunning fashion.

The Predators also started from scratch in season 2.

The Buffalo Daggers. Came from the word Dagz being used all the time and a play off the Buffalo Sabres.

I'm not from Alaska. I just thought it would be cool to have a team from there. I didn't think there would be many others. We were also built from scratch in season 2. I think I had 2 of my own players on my team in seasons 2 and 3. Everyone else was people I had recruited, not knowing any of them in real life. I actually don't know anyone who plays this game in real life.
As for my roll on the Bugeaters, it was bad luck we ended up in the same league let alone same conference. When the teams came out, there was a rush to buy one. I picked a league and bought one. This was after I already committed to Cains two of my players for the Bugeaters. The next day I find out we are in the same league.

The Demolition idea was just something that popped into my head. I remember hitting F5 a million times waiting for the teams to be released for Season 2 so I could buy one (before all that waiting list stuff - we were hardcore).
Soon after I purchased the team I decided to go with San Diego because I knew there would be a ton of Texas related teams. SD quickly became one of my favorite places to visit after taking a vacation there in '02. I think the name Demolition was something I found while searching Google. It was a name a hockey minor league team used. I liked the way it sounded with San Diego so my brother worked up a logo and the rest is history.

I'm with you there on the hitting F5 to get a team in Season 2. Good times.

I remember hitting f5 a million times as well. I promised all the guys from Huskers Illustrated forums(on rivals) that I'd get a team for us and I didn't want to let them down. I had a test the next day but was on for a few hours checking every 10 seconds or so.
Feel free to join us on Huskersillustrated.com If you got to the husker board, it's free. That's the one I use. The pay board is a little too stuffy. Like Tyante said, he is from our forum and said he'd be apart. Unlucky enough same league. We ended up moving out our first year and he followed us up. Now it's a fight to see who can get out of A6 first

I had recruited almost my entire team before I even had a team so I was hitting refresh as fast as my internet would go.

Yep Im right with you guys with the refreshing thing. I had just got into the game and had no players. The next 2 days at work I prolly offered about 200 contracts and signed like 5 guys.

Yeah, I remember it well. That was a real free-for-all. I think I missed out on the first team I tried to snag that day.

I just clicked on a middle late BBB league because I figured people would go for the first ones. I don't know if that psychology worked, but I did get a team on the first try.
