I have never understood the starting thing. If you are on a well run team everyone gets their plays. Does it matter if it's as a starter or a back up?

What I have a problem with is guys who think they can be a starting CB and starting KR/PR. Doesn't work that way. You've got to be completely specialized as a CB to be an effective KR.
I find it funny when level 10 and lower players ask for 80k contracts, especially when they don't boost or buy CE. Same goes for "really fast!" players who have <30 speed. I'm going to be glad once Bort finally starts taking teams away from people who go into negative cash.
That's why I spent almost 70 hours building the Alchemy, starting about 4 days before teams were released. I lucked into a bunch of guys like you who recognize what a winning team needs. 9 of our starters re-signed this offseason knowing I was going to try to bring in a better player at their position.

Very similar thing for me when I built Tonga. I actually put off looking for law internships to build the team, as it took me 8 solid hours per day for 2 weeks to get this team assembled just the way I want it. And like you, I lucked into the best group of guys I ever hoped for. Some of them, like with Solomon, resigned and agreed to be backups. I couldn't ask for a better group, and I feel very near ready for Season 5.

I didn't actually go out and start recruiting because I wasn't 100% sure I was even going to get a team, rookie mistake perhaps But I really thought I was going to have to wait another season to get a team anyway because for a whlie there I was at over 780 on the waiting list. I lucked out it seems, so, now with very little time left it's a scramble.
Especially with 'loaded teams' offering so much money to players that new owners starting with 0 players find it hard to compete.

AGREED!
But one day, I hope to be one of those loaded teams. Gotta get more of the stadium built!
To do what you've done there is challenging, not being able to do any prior recruiting due to your position on the wait list. I was fortunate, as I was in the mid-400s when I first joined the list, so I knew I was in for a team in Season 3.

I figure, if I can get a team together, get a few wins, and make SOME progress at least. It's a step forward, hopefully with a high turnover but if not, at least people will be able to look at me team, realize what I had to work with, an appreciate that we DID make progress, So, that's one way to look at it. You gotta start someplace.

To be fair, Free Agency is difficult from the players point of view also. I have a lvl 29 Center that was released from his team one night and the next morning I had 11 contract offers before I even put an ad in the market.

How is that difficult for a FA? It doesn't seem like they gotta do much "scouting" for teams. High lvls continue to be given 100k bonuses, with 250k contracts, etc. Disabling the ability of teams just starting out to compete.
In full honesty, the team I have should probably be in BBB. It's hard enough with a completely gutted team to get enough players on the field, let alone get enough to actually win games.

My final bitch about FA is that guys still haven't made a decision. Guys I have had offers into since the beginning of the off season and have been communicating with. What are they waiting for? It's killing me.

Difficult in the sense of finding a good team and not just a well-paying one. Last season, my level 13 CB's top contract was somewhere in the range of 250-300k for one season, including the bonus. This is from an expansion team, who has just 2.5 million to start out with to field 39 other players and build a stadium. I eventually settled for one just shy of 100k.
As for teams, I agree that they key is not getting a good team, it's getting a good team who will stay for more than one season. A lot of owners/GMs are too concerned about winning now than ensuring that they'll still have a team once their one season contracts run out.

Yes but that's because of the fact that many players want those 250-300k deals, excluding bonuses, hampering a new teams ability to do anything, unless their winning. So teams are concerned about winning every game just to keep their players happy.

Like I mentioned earlier, not being able to send a team into the red will help some. Irresponsible owners will still snag all of the high contract players, and will lose their team as a result, but this should hopefully teach owners not to bid 10% of his or her cash for one player.
It does make the recruiting process take about 3-4 times longer than it should be, as you sidestep all of the attention...hoarders. One can only hope that teams stop catering to these players, as teams start dropping like flies. Unfortunately, it'll be about four seasons too late by that time, but it's the best that can be done.

Both good and solid points.
Many of the best players Tonga's had have been the guys who want to win first and foremost; who saw our system; and who trusted us that we could lead them to victory. That's what we've been built on. We'll be able to offer our guys $250K/year contracts one day, and it'll be all the more rewarding, especially for those who have been there since the beginning. For now, though, we're just here to play and win.

There actually is alot of scouting. I don't just look for the highest contract, let's face it, money doesn't do all that much. It's about finding a team you enjoy playing for. And inevetiablly you piss someone off because you don't respond quick enough.
