One of the few local bases set half the city into a panic shooting off new large ordinance they hadn't gotten their hands on before without telling anyone beforehand. Police and fire were getting overwhelmed with people reporting they absolutely knew it was a meth lab in their neighborhood or they absolutely saw someone shooting in their neighborhood.

..military PR sucks.

I fucking hate reviews. Hate them. Yet, I'm addicted to reading them.

If you look up reviews online, everything has horrible reviews. I've recently purchased a badass home security system. (The company is listed as top 5 in every ranking from every site for security systems.) Yet, when you read the reviews, it's nothing but people bitching about extra charges and not being able to cancel their contract - as well as just terms in their contract in general.

It's fucking annoying. It made me re-think my purchase as if I made a bad decision. Then, I remembered all the awful reviews I read about DirecTV and I fucking love DirecTV.

It's pretty much the same complaints you hear about satellite companies, phone companies... anything that you sign a contract for. People don't listen, don't pay attention, and think they can just cancel any time - so, they never go in with any commitment and end up getting a rude awakening.

Plus, no one ever writes good reviews. When everything is peachy, you don't care about taking the time to go and write about how good the service is. It's only pissed off people that make the effort.

And, don't get me started on restaurant reviews.

Actually, I want to mention one restaurant review. This is a mock up of what it said because I don't remember it exactly and I'm not going to bother to look up the link:

1 out of 5 Stars

Great Food, Excellent Service

I had the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger. It was delicious! The fries were great and you can't beat the 2 for 1 beer all day. The servers were nice and very efficient. Unfortunately, they charge .50 cents for a to-go box. What kind of place does that!?!?!? I will never come here again! I would give this place 0 out of 5 stars if I could!

But, is that a reason to never return?

Is that worthy of a 1/5 review? If you read the review, that sounds more like 4/5. They were satisfied with food and service, yet there was one little .50 cent snag stopping it from being perfection. Yet, they would have rated it 0 if they could have.

That person should be banned.

Oh, and I go to that place all the fucking time. They don't charge for to-go boxes.

I was being sarcastic dude. I don't read reviews of places. I'll ask my friends who don't have kids about places to go, so that when my wife and I get the chance to go out the once or twice a month we do, I know where to go.

A representative of the restaurant can dispute that and have it removed. I write excellent reviews, but unfortunately the reality is that the quality in restaurants is not a constant, so one place I wrote a glowing review for has ended up going down the toilet a few months later in both food and service quality.

You're right that the quality certainly isn't a constant. That's expected, though. It's just the 'star' rating that kills me because they average that shit out (places like Yelp and Urbanspoon). Some people just don't review with proper logic and that kills restaurants. At least you can read in the description to decipher if the review is full of shit or not, but then you end up wasting time. But, then, you know the quick 'stars' approach isn't accurate either.

It also kills me when all people do is harp on how terrible their server was. A bunch of my friends have been servers, so I know how that whole thing goes... Plus, if that server really is so terrible, then they probably have been fired. What are the odds that I get another shitty server or the same server? That shit is only relevant if people consistently bash the whole staff.

But there you go, Ruth's Chris getting a 1 star review because someone didn't like their server's attitude.

I want to strangle those people... or at least bash their head into a table.

Getting the same server is pretty common around here, especially if you frequent an establishment at the same time of day. Having a bad one hurts the dining experience and is worth complaining about.

Which, brings up the question. What should the review focus on?

The establishment, food, and service and your impression on how it runs and serves people overall?

Or your single, personal dining experience?

Edit: I just know, when I'm looking up reviews and searching for a place to eat, I put very little weight into reviews who just talk about their server.

Shouldn't a person take into consideration that maybe they had an experience that wasn't very typical?

But anyways... I shouldn't go online and suddenly think I'm part of a scam or a ponzi-scheme or some shit when, in reality, all I did was purchase a service from one of the top 5 home security companies in the country (in some cases, top 3).

That's like saying DirecTV is a scam.
