That's 153 fucking degrees
Thing is I turned it off before I left. So the fan shorts or something while I'm gone and it decides it needs to consistently reboot to test if it is still too hot (raising the temperature in doing so) instead of just staying the hell off. The lady I talked to said it's good I caught it because they can cause fires. I was both pissed and elated at that news.
To directv's credit, they were very nice and understanding about the whole thing, they're sending me a free replacement first class to be here by Saturday, and they don't even need the old one back so I don't have to remember to ship it
had a friend with the same exact issue
It's common with those boxes. They're trash.

Are you putting stuff on top? Those things get really hot if you block the vents on the top.
I used to stack all of my electronics without even thinking about it because I had an amp, a digital box, a 360, a PS3, a Wii, an SNES, and a center speaker that all needed to fit into the same area.
I put the heaviest things on the bottom and then stacked the lighter shit on top. Big mistake. The amp and the digital box both needed much better ventilation than they were getting. I left something running when I went away for a weekend and when I came back the bottom of the SNES had started to melt into the amp. I had to replace both.

good rule of thumb: if your electronics have vents, there's a reason.

Yup, learned that lesson in one try.

The direcTV boxes are just pieces of shit. Not even a vent/fan issue.

They are trash. They're ridiculously slow after a year and they die after 2

No vents on the top of this model but the vents on the sides were clear. Barely even any dust there. I have my 360, my one, and my DVR in the same entertainment center but they are all on fairly roomy shelves with a lot of room. The 360's shelf even slides out since it's prone to overheating so it has nothing but space

Considering trading in the box for that little module that would let me adapt my One as a DVR. That thing is a champ and I'd trust it way more than the DVRs

...since I signed the rolls as a lawyer yesterday, also... don't do anything illegal.
Time Trial advised me to lock people in a room on campus and set the DVR on fire.

In Canada, if I am aware that my client is going to commit a violent crime against a specific person, place, or group then I may have the responsibility to breach confidentiality to protect those people, while minimally impairing my client.
Also he's not my client... yet.
