Welp, I guess the Atlanta Eagles are the real deal this season. Looks like Taylor's Defense couldn't hang.
When I analyze it, it looks way more like Taylor couldn't punch it in on Offense like Atlanta was able too.

Yeah we had as many offensive struggles as we did defensively, Atlanta whooped us the score was closer than the game.

Looks like only 5 good teams in the tier and Wolfman has 3 of them. Dallas is decent but inconsistent. Four losses already and they needed OT to sneak past a 5-8 Fayetteville team

Well it depends what you define as 'good': fayetteville + dakota dragons have a pretty solid run defense for example, but the reality is you're sitting in a tier where three of the top five teams are extremely pass heavy, mafia fairly balanced and while Barbs lean slightly more run we can also pass when needed - long story short if you don't have a good pass defense you're probably going to give up points vs. any of the top 5.
So today Dakota gave us a reasonable run for the money (GG btw): I had to pick out very specific runs to get decent ypc (and even then they did a pretty good job of forcing turnovers) but vs. Eagles/Taylor Gang/Alaskans they will run riot over that defense - not enough teams seem to be taking that into account, the balanced approach just isn't going to cut it with these high powered pass offenses: if teams want to be serious about challenging for a top 5 spot you have to start bearing in mind the type of teams currently occupying those spots and plan your builds accordingly.

Also my general impression on the Atlanta vs. Taylor Gang game yesterday was Atlanta just got going earlier on, as the match went on Taylor Gang's offense started to move the ball more regularly and score points but it wasn't enough. Eagles HBs looked a bit more dangerous running the ball (Taylor Gang seem to be building their HBs more to catch so fair enough) but aside from that there's wasn't really that much more to it imo: but if there was any doubt that Eagles are/aren't a top 5 team that has been erased.

I gambled a lot more today to try stopping the pass more. We are getting killed by the passing game. Of course, we gave up a lot more rushing yards. On offense we have gone to more passing because we haven't found a groove running the ball. We have never made it a secret what we try to do. Run enough to kill the clock, pass enough to keep teams off balance. Play enough defense to make an opponent punt once in a while. I would prefer low scoring games. With the passing attacks, even at the lower levels, it is tough.

You surprised me with the defensive playbook for sure, but looking at the matchups page it was fairly obvious you've been gearing your builds a lot more towards shutting down the run - in more or less any other tier you would have a top defense no question, but like I say have to bear in mind the teams you're going to come up against.
It was a good shout going more pass defense for sure, I took one look at your defense and decided if there was ever a time to go more pass heavy this was it - ideally I'd rather not be throwing 40+ times a game but that's exactly why we brought in a S* QB/TE in the first place, so we can execute Plan B if we need to (and it was necessary today
).
I actually see a lot of similarities between the two teams, it's just we've been focusing our defensive builds more on pass defense precisely because of the way the other teams in the top 5 are set up. Later on your run defense is going to come in very handy as HBs start to become more dangerous but for now it's overkill tbh
- on the plus side you can now more or less afford to run anti-pass plays without worrying about the run that much in the short-term, but vs. the high octane pass offenses this season I can see the builds superseding the plays in terms of importance (i.e. you might be calling good plays but the anti-run direction of the builds may make it irrelevant). If you can make it through to the playoffs I can see you guys being a good dark horse candidate if you get some favourable weather conditions like snow or heavy rain, but maybe some food for thought in the shorter term. Best of luck to you: more competitive the tier is the better it is for everyone imo and maybe with a slight change of emphasis on your defense I can see you closing the gap on the top five for sure

If you lose by 70+ points at any point in the season you aren't a good team. My point is there is a clear drop off beyond the top 5 teams in the tier. Sure some of the teams can create matchup issues here and there but they aren't going to challenge for #1 in the tier.
It's funny that the top teams are mostly pass heavy because the game is currently dominated by balanced and run heavy teams. Running backs have been putting up historic numbers for the past 8ish seasons. The passing game was strong in earlier seasons of the game but clearly has dropped off a bit since. I built AA as a passing team because you just didn't see pure passing offenses anymore and I thought I might be able to take advantage of people building to stop these balanced and run heavy offenses. Just my luck that two of the other top teams are pass heavy as well, although we take it to the most extreme level.

Well then, it's a good thing that I really wanted to build a SS to Shutdown TE in the passing game LOL
. Maybe Fayetteville is having a rough time now but I do think they qualify as a good team in this highly skewed tier of team strength. If they change somethings up we could see them challenging the top 5 teams for wins on the ladder and league games.

Jay is working hard on learning to coordinate. This is his first go around so he is going to take a lot of lumps. I don't like to discourage new guys by telling them they are bad, especially if you're already the best in the game.

I think Jay has been doing what he needs to, ups and downs, but will just continue to improve. And his team wouldn't take too many adjustments to become one of the "top teams".
