Bonus SA's - None
Penalty SA's - None

Heh, instead of arguing a powerback up, i argued the combo back down.

oh well. i'm still not sure either the powerback or the combo back are as good as the elusive/ scat back, but at least they're more different now.

It really depends on 1) how old they are and 2) whether they will improve by selecting the archetype. I think it's something you'll have to evaluate on a player by player basis. It's definitely not something I can give a concrete yes/no answer to.

Thanks for this. I go back to my original question though - this is a chance to truly diversify builds by making different SAs available to different archtypes. That's been ruled out, evidently. Why?

We're giving the option for two extra SA's - one from any available SA's and one that will be custom to the archetype. We feel the current SA's are fine and cover most of the areas needed to be covered (especially when combined with VA's) and that refining/improving them was what needed to be done, not adding a ton of new ones.

Since there are diminishing returns on SA's will the bonus be less powerful then the SA penalties (if the SA has a Natural Value of say 10. Flat Bonus makes it 12, penalty makes it 8. Will there still be diminishing returns on the SA bonuses?

Dunno. Bort's the coder, not me.

Just about every Archetype seems to have one or more needed ability that gets no ALG. For example QBs get no gain in Carrying (the primary anti-fumble attribute) and the scrambling QB is missing both Carrying and Stamina. Is this intentional? Wouldn't it help if each archetype had an extra minor to make them a little more rounded?

It was a matter of choice - if we selected all the minor attributes that have some meaning to get ALG's we wouldn't have been much better off than the current system. You can train those skills or add skill points to them if you want - the archetypes will now force players to do that.

Who are you kidding? QBs already don't have much in Carrying and they still rarely fumble when sacked. What you are doing by not having it is making it so that eventually no one will have Carrying and Bort will never be able to change the sim to be remotely realistic in terms of QBs fumbling.
What's so bad about having 4-5 minors instead of 3? To say that adding more minors would make the current system not much better than the old--that frankly is a damning statement for the new system. Having different types of players adds to the game; I get that. Having none of your QB archetypes get carrying and none of your receiver archetypes get blocking (including WRs, scat backs, and receiving TEs) doesn't add diversity to the game, it simply removes fundamentals from dotball.

Along with the new archetypes, is there going to be any adjustments made to the way player's weight & height affect their performance in the SIM? I think most would agree that it's not realistic to have the most dominant powerbacks to be 180 lbs. Or is that all accounted for in the bonuses and height/weight won't affect the players as a sim calculation?

Hey Catch22, when you say you'll get to pick a custom SA for each archetype, is that limited to certain ones or whatever you decide.. Thanks..

There will be a bonus SA - this will be one you can pick from any available SA (outside of the ones already in your two trees). Then there will be a custom archetype SA - we haven't determined those yet, but we'll be working on it (taking suggestions as soon as I post the thread, which I will do after I'm done here).

Agreed that the current SAs pretty much cover it. My suggestion was to take the current list of SAs and open up (a little bit) which SAs a particular position/archtype could use. You're doing that to a degree.

lol I'll revise the OP that outlines everything and add a comment to the post saying that it's been changed. Not going to pm everyone.
