I'm just surprised that detectives shut shit down early on Fridays and just bail for the entire weekend. Is their no weekend crew? Does every investigation just get shelved for the weekend?

About 8 years ago my home was burglarized. They found the fingerprints of some guy I've never heard of all inside my home. I recovered some of my stolen items from a couple of pawn shops and the same guy's name was on one of the pawn tickets.
I hounded the police and prosecutor to no avail. The asshole was never prosecuted. They told me there wasn't enough evidence against him.

Went almost one month without car trouble so of course something has to happen.

Agreed. Far too many of them only take their job seriously when they get to use their authority on someone else.
