If this is a Run Block Awareness roll then players are actually never using Lead Blocking Awareness.

A player with 80 in an Awareness skill at Journeyman level should almost always understand what he is supposed to do when he does the said thing, even more when it's such an obvious call.

Maybe it's a good idea to do a thread in the Suggestions forum if you have other obvious examples.

Maybe both lead block and run block awareness is used on sweeps?

Our idea when we first set out was first recognize the block and then worry about making the block. Now we are at the point where guys still aren't recognizing half their blocks in space on those plays and that is precisely what holds us back from being really good.

An awareness boost for all players on both sides of the ball would be great, it's frustrating that even veteran players constantly fail to make the most basic reads that real life pop warner players would make. Both pass and run blockers refuse to engage guys right in front of their face, defenders have no sense of gap assignments and run right past guys carrying the ball, ball carriers run right into traffic or would be tacklers (though the patch last season helped this *some* and was a nice step in the right direction). QB have a ton of trouble finding the open man and since there are no custom read progression are mostly left chucking it into double coverage, which is a farce two times over since they can actually complete a good number of those passes. Over will is dictating the entire meta game just because blocking assignments are broken.

Seems like maybe he didn't have the physicals to catch the defender flying past him. Idk my FB picks that up fine with 61 lead block aware and 40 run blk aware. Hes very fast and quick tho. He benefits from getting to the defender while they are still backpedaling and recognizing the play.

That was my next thought. He has to be quick enough to stop and change direction to pick up the block. He might have passed the awareness check but if he doesn't have the athletic ability to get to the man, it is useless.

that does happen a ton. either the player is fast with no awareness or a ton of awareness and no speed.

The speed and quickness is one part of some of the DEs running around the lineman i think. they are just built so much faster. by all means still is to easy and should be adjusted though.

that seems kinda ridiculous though as he is right there and he just runs by. Basically you are telling me that awareness is meaningless to the equation. That being said, no doubt the next time through we will be adopting that strategy rather that screwing around with the awareness parts of it.

Maybe FBs have to reach a certain spot before looking for someone to block, unless there is someone right in their face before they reach the said area.

I was watching that and thinking that. He seems to follow a certain path, a bit like how the beginning of the qb to HB hand offs are automated. Then when he gets there he turns round but its too late as the defender was past him before he got to his spot

Again that sort of defeats the purpose of awareness. I dunno, guess we will just have to keep plugging along till we find something right there.

Except my S* OTs would regularly let much slower/less quick DEs run right around them

yeah it is stupid. My guess is maybe without it FBs used to just run up into the Oline looking for a man without the pathing though on outside runs?
