Yeah around that range, they are saying it might be a bad year for maple syrup because the temperature is too warm at this time of the year. Usually at it should be around 15-20...

That was the most Canadian thing I've ever read.

my wife wants to move out of town and wants to buy one of these storage container homes. I work from home or I travel depending on client needs so being out of town isn't a real inconvience for me, but I don't know how I feel about living completely off the grid.

Do you know of a place where the zoning would allow it?

Also, would it not be cheaper and more efficient to just buy a single wide trailer?

we literally just talked about it today for the first time, it was one of those conversations where she subtly hints at it. which means that that is her endgame. so I haven't looked into it at all. she will do most of the information gathering, so she can subtly hint at it more and more.

well we have two kids, so I would kill them all if I didn't have my office/man cave. so even if it is more efficient I still couldn't do it.

Ultimately, other than making some sort of recycling statement, it just seems like you would spend far more money on making shipping containers livable than either having a modular/trailer built or stick building it. Literally everything you do would be a giant pain in the ass.

Fun fact related to when we were talking about Glenlivet earlier; Doing a bit of genealogical research while desperately avoiding my chemistry homework, turns out my extended (on the order of 7th-8th cousins) cousin is the Lord of the land the Glenlivet distillery is on. Edit: And we actually have the Clan castle less than 20 minutes from it.

Another cousin, I believe the son of the man that's the Lord of the Glenlivet distillery, owns and operates a distillery that produces Cock o' the North Scotch.

Not that I needed another but I believe this is a reason to drink some scotch.

Edit Deux: and we used to own Balmoral Castle until Queen Victoria's husband claimed it for them. Dick.

Yeah, is making a statement of living in a shipping container the most important thing, or is being practical? I assume you are going to want this thing close to code, with modern electric, plumbing, insulation, etc. The containers create a lot of labor, and don't really create much value.

re-sale value is terrible right now, I don't think that will improve much either. the only thing I like about them is the cost of building compared to a stick built. even after labor you're still saving roughly 10-15 grand, because of the lack of need for a foundation. I've also seen some really cool looking ones. it would also be nice to no longer have an electric bill since she wants one with the solar panels and wind turbine shit.
