It really depends what kind of drinking I'm doing. If I'm just sipping one glass, then yeah, I'll generally do bourbon straight. If we have a gathering and it's going to be a few hours of drinking, I'll mix it with Coke.

lol I'm actually the other way around. I don't really care for Coca-Cola, but I like the way it mixes.


Also, I like the carbonation dynamic when drinking a whiskey or bourbon.

I really want to try making my own ginger beer to mix w/ Bourbon. It seems easy enough from some google searches.

Also, Bulleit bourbon is where it's at (make yourself an Old Fashioned).

only bourbon I can drink. bulleit is fucking delicious.

be incredibly careful with ginger beer...it's VERY easy to go to heavy on the ginger, making the beer damned near undrinkable.

Have you ever had Blenheim ginger ale? I made a special trip to South of the Border to pick some up and the "Hot" version was undrinkable, and the regular was such that most could not tolerate it.

I dunno if that's available here, I haven't seen it. if I do, though, I know to stay away now. I like a bit more bite than your standard shwepps or canada dry types of ginger ale give, but not as much as what you describe.

if you are making it strcitly to be a mixed drink additive, the extra ginger would be good

I've not had ginger beer. I will use ginger ale for Canadian and Irish whiskeys, though. Darker whiskeys/bourbons, I prefer colas.

Bulleit is delicious, I agree.

ginger beer with vodka and lime (moscow mule) is pretty good. ..but it has to be fever tree's ginger beer or else it doesn't taste right.
