Agreed.

We need more than pancakes once we get into equivalent talent levels...

it can't happen. they've asked about this since i got here in s2, and Peter has said that it's hard to determine who's responsible when a sack is allowed.

that's a bit of horse shit though, because how does a lineman know who to block in the sim? it's not like real life where you can't read the guys mind; it's a computer simulation where you know what he was trying to do.

In the replay it shows you who allowed the sack.

What about blitzes? Is it a sack allowed for you if a team overloads you with 3 players?

shows you the play so you can see whose fault it was; it's not recorded algorithmically as to who allowed the sack.

that's probably one problem with making it a stat. In the NFL, no that is not a sack allowed. If you are beaten by a single blocker or miss an assignment altogether, that is a sack allowed

I know, but it makes it easier to tally them up that way.

what i mean to say is that it's easy with our eyes to say "it's this guy's fault" ... what's a good algorithm to determine how it's tallied up? you can't just have monkeys sitting there tallying it for you.

i'm just playing devil's advocate btw; there is an easy way in the code to figure it out. on the vision check, before the OL passes or fails, the person to whom the OL should block given a successful vision check is recorded. if that player gets past the OL (even if it's not a sack or hurry or penetration), then it should count as a Defeat for the DL and a Defeat Against for the OL.

(Plays - Defeats)/Plays = Quality % for OL, Defeats/Plays = Quality % for DL ... pretty simple IMO

Agree - please make sacks and hurries allowed as viewable stats.

who allowed this sack? do you blame the tackle or one of the guards?

how about this one
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=292029&pbp_id=4421047
was the FB to blame for not seeing it? the LT and LG were shutting down their linemen, but the LB went right between them, was it their fault? or maybe it was the RG who shouldnt have been double teaming the NT while a LB was running untouched.

if you can answer these -and everyone agrees with you-, please give an algorithm for how a computer would come to the same conclusion.

RG, he shouldve gotten that CB (obviously didnt have enough spd). You can tell it's the RG's assignment because if the CB didn't blitz, the RG always goes to double-team the NT. So in the code, the vision check must have said "oh shit there's a CB"

FB failed the vision check; it's his fault. In the code, it said the FB had only so much vision and he failed the check on the ROLB, so he went somewhere else. If he had perfect vision, he would've gotten the check.

The checks exist in the game as part of the sim; why not use those to determine who was right and who was wrong?
