Hell of a game Javelinas. Appears this postseason is going to largely be about to whom the ball bounces to. We caught a couple of lucky ones today. We put a lot into putting ourselves in position to capitalize on those bounces, but you can never fully prepare to force, or lose, that many TOs.

Not looking forward to the rematch, Bears.

Four fumbles, an interception, and our A.I. decides not to kick a FG while on fourth and goal from the 8-yard line when down 10 with still half the fourth quarter left.

I absolutely don't mean ANYTHING to take away from the win for you guys Caspian, but I think this game might put me into retirement and I'm folding my team. I'm just about done with the stupid fucking game.

This is like the 3rd time FG AIs screwed us out of a win...

I know how you feel, we throw 10 ints all season and then 6 in one game to cost us any real chance at a victory. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Bears win but we got shafted pretty hard by the sim today.

I just realized the FG crap was explainable...

My go for it on 4th down AI had kicked in on the first one (entirely my fault... complete oversight).
The 2nd one on the 42 Yard Line was OUTSIDE our FG range... not at it.

Isn't it amazing how that happens? I know how you feel Terlingua. We outgained Caspian Sea, but lost 6 fumbles. It is absolutely ridiculous. I am still pissed about it. The most fumbles we have ever lost in a game is 4. That was a long time ago.

Here's my gripe about the playoffs: the things players don't do all season long, they all of a sudden start doing. Last season, we lost in the playoffs because our kicker missed TWO -- TWO!!! -- extra points in the game!! He hasn't missed two extra points in the last two regular seasons combined, but come that game, he was kicking them off the side of the poles.

I know it could be explained about playoff pressure and all that. But the build is perfect for him in those siutations -- tons of confidence and a lot of levels of "AUTOMATIC" and such. Plus, he'd been DEADEYE in pressure kicking situations before all season.

Then, this season, we put the ball on the ground FOUR TIMES! Everybody in this league knows how we relied on our rushing game -- we're run, run, run the ball. And in this game, we actually threw more than we ran -- yet we STILL fumbled more times than in any other game. What is that all about!? Our punt returner fumbled the ball, and if you look, I DON'T THINK HE'S FUMBLED HIS ENTIRE CAREER!!!

If they want us to throw money at this fucking game, they have to make things more in our control. Again, I understand how the "random" function is part of the game -- if it wasn't, there wouldn't be any upsets. But it shouldn't have this type of an influence, PARTICULARLY when it's not like that during the regular season.

Again, I refuse to take anything away from Caspian because that's a danged good team and were in position to take advantage of all those errors. I think they can win the whole ding-donged thing. But I'd like (and I bet they would too) like to be able to say they beat us WITHOUT crazy random bounces and weird shit happening all over the place. I feel like all the fumbles and stuff takes away from the GRAND gameplan they had against us and kinda taints their win.

I'm firing off continually nasty e-mail to Bort to see if I can get banned from the game and that way take the choice of rather to continue to play or not outta my own hands ...

I totally agree, getting out gameplanned or outplayed is one thing but for the random playoff sim to completely take away any chance you may have had at winning the game (in our case 8 turnovers) just pisses me off and makes me want to quit playing the game all together.

In all fairness, we were second in the league in FFs this season. We have players, especially on STs, BUILT for forcing fumbles...because I know they're the equalizer in close games. As DC, I can't PLAN for that many FFs, but I can have players capable of causing them, and making sure they're in position to do so.

Now, how they bounce is a completely different story. Terilingua caused two fumbles of their own today, but it's pure luck as to who recovers them, and we were lucky enough to have them bounce into our own arms. THAT part is certainly random, but I suppose it is in real football, too.

Likewise, the Bears were second in the league in INTs(and Diadochi's QB DID have one of his worst days against them during the regular season - lots of yards, but an INT and low completion %)...so there is SOME kind of underlying theme here. I personally think that playoff Confidence works a lot differently in the playoffs, than in the regular season(my biggest gripe, personally...that Bort won't admit that sims are different during the postseason, when they clearly are)...like, it drops faster, and has a more negative effect on your player's performance, but also can really make them superhuman if they start doing well.

I've been on the shitty sides of this situation on more than one occasion, so I know how it feels. Here's hoping it doesn't run you off from the game, harshorne.

So you did have your players set on Power tackling... I knew it...

To be honest, without giving much away...it's a mixed bag, really. I have players at certain places that I can trust to to play on Power 100% of the time. Others, we change, based on the opposition. Others still, I know can't play on anything above Wrap-up.

Looking at today's box score...ironically, only one of the players that forced a fumble against Terilingua was set to Power, to the best of my knowledge. Though...I'm not saying who.

See that figures.

Again mssnlife, the thing that I most hate about bitching here is that I DON'T want to take away from you guys' win. YOu obviously gameplanned your ass off as the fact we beat you by 50 points in the regular season and we're nip-and-tuck in this game attests to. But it's just too many times this has happened to us in the playoffs and I've just whistled past the graveyard too much. It'd be one thing if I can honestly say we got beat -- and I have in the past when we lost. And you guys likely would have beaten us anyway, but we'd sure have liked to given our best shot.

This reeks of a football sim being programmed by guys who think playoff drama is the luck of a overtime penalty kick in soccer ...

I agree in that manner. Like I said earlier, Bort vehemently denies that there is a change in the way the sim works during the playoffs, and maybe we all just scrutinize a lot more during the postseason, but we've all seen sims that run differently than during the regular season. He attributes to a change in gameplanning(and I'll openly admit that I, personally, didn't put near the effort into gameplanning out regular season game as I did this one)...but not for there to be this big of a swing.

Like I said, I think it hinges on how confidence effects play that is such the swing...and maybe Bort doesn't tell us because he wants certain part of the game to have to be learned the hard way...but I think there needs to be SOME kind of admittance in change for playoff sims.
