Whiskey sour is where it's at chumps.
As far as peppermint stuff goes, though, my dad made some weird cinnamon peppermint flavored moonshine, like 100 proof. Had the burning of alcohol with the cooling of peppermint. Was weird taking shots of it.

I want to like gin and tonic because it's simple and easy but gah. Gin is so damn dry and tonic tastes so off to me
Trick is the right proportion of each with a good bit of fresh lime juice squeezed in. If someone makes it right, it tastes almost sweet; like Sprite only better.

Seriously just straight whiskey on the rocks. Every night after work I have two glasses before bed. Wake up the next morning and feel fine. Went out last weekend after work and had 4 beers. Woke up next day with mild hangover. I really attribute that though to the fact that when I am at home I drink a ton of water and obviously don't if I go out somewhere.

Gunna go ahead and confirm the 'eating bread gets you less drunk' myth. Shit ton of Irish soda bread (it's really good btw if anyone is looking for some party fillers) with 4 beers, 5 shots, a gin+tonic with some creme de menthe (its all I had for mint, couldnt get any fresh last minute. ended up not being all that bad) and a few sips of random this or that over about 5 hours and I don't even feel the slightest bit impaired, just a bit tired.
Will see how I feel in the morning though, didnt drink jack for water or electrolytes.

I'm the same way. I don't really drink very often. but when I do drink it's usually always at home when the kids are gone or really late at night. if I drink beer I'll get hungover. straight liquor and I'm fine.

It doesn't get you less drunk it just slows the rate of absorption. Kind of like spreading out what you drink over a longer period of time.

I grow mint for this very purpose.
add ice to tumbler. half fill with gin.
go outside, pick mint sprig.
add mint to tumbler, top with tonic.
drink.
repeat as needed.

I enjoy just about anything but jäger and stuff made from anise. Right now, I'm a bourbon guy. 3oz Knob Creek, 1oz Coca Cola is my ratio.

Oh, I'm experimenting with St. Germaine. Love this stuff, but I'm not much of a mixologist, so I'm searching the net for various cocktails to make with it. So far, the best I've had is a margarita. You sub the St.Germaine for the triple sec/Cointreau.
