Maybe you missed the 'They' as in a BBB A+ car company. I thought they'd know something about the car they were selling me

For the record, the BBB won't accept complaints after litigation and settlements generally include withdrawing complaints made to the BBB. Regardless, the BBB rating is only an indication and obviously shouldn't be a reason that you trust an unfamiliar company completely.

They're a big company though. Very well rated on their new cars. I probably shouldn't have gotten a used GMC from a new Honda dealer but I still trusted their service and parts department

Seriously though it blows making an invest like that and it blows up in your face. Shit happens man my buddy just bought a car in great condition it seemed everything worked and he drove it for like 2 weeks and all the door handles broke off the doors and the battery died..although none of that is too major shit happens
Shit definitely happens.
I'd buy a 'shit happens' t-shirt but with my luck it'd probably be tainted with arsenic.

Good news: It was a quick fix
Bad news: It's $900 and Im gunna murder someone
The check engine light was, contrary to the dealership's statement, an actual issue that my car was trying to alert me to. When the fuse for the horn shorted out, it shorted out the entire computer and they noted a separate problem with my thermostat that could have but may or may not have actually lead to my engine running hotter than it should've and could've caused the short.

Illinois does have mandatory emissions testing, but there are exclusions:

What vehicles are subject to vehicle emissions inspection?
A. Generally, most 1996 and newer gasoline-powered passenger vehicles are subject to testing after they are four years old. 2007 model year and newer heavy duty trucks, with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) between 8,501 and 14,000, are also subject to testing.
Diesel powered vehicles, vehicles powered exclusively by electricity, and certain other vehicles are not required to test. Check the Exempt Vehicles List for details.
Also, not all zip codes are mandated to have emissions.

You might be fine depending on where you live or what you drive. Until they change the law again, of course.

Champaign county isnt even on that list
Edit: So it saying Northeastern Illinois and St Louis Metro area. So basically Chicago and St Louis are the only places that test.
