This happens to my zone guys a lot too. They will turn around and be in perfect position for the INT. The ball will either bounce off their hands/chest or go though them and land in the hands of a WR who is laying on the ground...

Something changes in the catch mechanic when facing/using Zone compared to Man, WRs even have a lot harder time catching passes when they are wide open when facing a zone defense. I assume CBs are in the same boat, Zone is so completely broken. It's terrible against the run and the pass. Why even have it if it's worse than Man against both. At this point either make some changes or take it out of the game.

Zone isn't that bad. It just needs a few improvements like having players "talk" to each other so they won't double team a WR while another runs free.

You mean, like "man assignments"?

That's the thing though, the defenders shouldn't be chasing Receivers around in underneath Zone. They are defending part of the field, if a WR runs through their area they may move a little but they don't chase the guy around. Zone defenders react too slowly to a thrown pass most of the time.

Although my zone team has been successful, I am seeing major holes and not sure what to do about it.

The way you are doing it now(blitzing) is the best option. It forces quick plays, the longer the play runs the more time you give the current Zone logic time to screw something up.

So, working as intended?

Zone isn't supposed to be impenetrable blanket coverage. One of the main benefits is offering more flexible assignments while still providing at least some degree of coverage.

Zones are kind of the "grind it out" defense.

Put enough pressure on the QB so he has to make quick short passes while at least having loose coverage on everyone. Force consistency and force WRs to repeatedly run routes. Wait until something breaks.

Zones will never provide the same sustained coverage of man defense. Just sending everyone back into a zone and hoping for the best is generally not going to be the best pass defense...somebody will eventually get open.

it sill lacks logic...I see you from the game perspective but your words arent right in real football. if everyone goes deep, 4 LBs shouldnt stay in flat like they are ankered and stuff...also what is really needed is an adjustment of the zones to the Tripsw formation as it really ripps zone apart

Yeah, I know that's a common meme, but everyone seems to have different ideas of what they mean by "logic". Between pointing to specific plays where zones don't (and shouldn't) work, and contradicting opinions on what "zone logic" means, adding "zone logic" isn't likely to come any time soon.

I mean, as far as "zone logic".

Split difference between guys in zone
More weight to guys entering zone
Less weight to guys leaving zone
Less weight to guys already covered by someone else
Transition from backpedal to sprint if too far from someone to make a play
Move upfield if all receivers are behind you

Anything else to add to the list?
