Not trying to be snotty or anything, but the "could care less about competition" is a blatant straw man argument. That's neither what I said nor what I meant.

You said, "They got to play the teams in their division twice."
I replied, "Oh, and the Alpha division teams haven't played each other twice yet, so ya, that part of your argument is meaningless."

See the difference versus, "You could care less about competition but you want to change it for competition wat?"

I bring this up because I think debate is a fantastic tool for working through conflicts to get at good solutions. However, good debate requires all participants to avoid fallacies.

Now, to try and answer your point another way to maybe help you understand where I'm coming from.

I do care about competition, but competition is going to happen no matter what the league structure is. However with the current setup you don't have the best competition possible in the playoffs because you aren't getting the best teams into the playoffs. With the random divisional split, you get a pretty significant chunk of luck tossed in.

Now, you can't totally remove luck from this or any other competition (except things like tic-tac-toe or chess where there are finite move sets and no dice rolls), but you can work out ways to reduce its impact. Changing to overall best records instead of best record in a random picked division works towards that.

Changing it to overall best records means the top teams just go back to cruise controlling through the entire season regardless of their division.

And as the divisions get shuffled some more... competition will adjust some more.

Just take playoff teams by overall record and not division.

Then what would be the point of having divisions, if a division winner could miss the playoffs?

Exactly. There is no point to them in that case.

How does every game not matter now?

Which again provides the same holes in competition.

Don't overthink it - it's not really about "making the playoffs" or not. Ultimately only one team wins the championship, so it doesn't *really* matter which division you're in. They had 14 games to make their case about being good enough to win the league, and couldn't do it. It happens. The problem with the way the GLB1 system worked is lolregularseason. In GLB2, if you want to win the league, you can't sleepwalk through the regular season (unless you are that much better than everyone else in which case it doesn't matter what league structure you use)

If you really want to convince anyone that the playoff format needs adjusting, address the above first.

I don't give a shit if your team is the third best team in GLB but #1 and #2 were in your division so you missed the playoffs. "Making the playoffs" is not some award that the four best teams in the league "deserve". It's the next step after the regular season towards crowning a league champion, that's all. Stop thinking in terms of "My team is good enough to make the playoffs" and start thinking in terms of "My team is good enough to win my division" and "My team is good enough to win my league". THAT is what the league format is trying to accomplish. And it works *great*.

#4 Funday vs #5 Queen City
#6 Ronin vs #13 New Jersey Generals
#7 Seahawks vs #9 Legacy
#10 Rocky Mountain vs #15 Annapolis

It really doesn't because they are all still fighting for the playoffs. Even the conference you are perceiving as weak.
