Maybe if you retire as a multiple season record holder or league champion you get as much as 120% FP back, but an average joe career returns maybe 50% FP.

i agree with this. the guys who have the good stats deserve the best.

multiple itmes league leader in rushing.

high career average per run.

we players desereve to get rewarded for having great careers. but it needs to be sorted fom the people who give HB's 40+ carries a game and get like 300 yards. i think average needs to play a role in this game

I like this idea: basically, after a certain point, age starts to hurt your player's stats. Eventually it gets to the point that you WANT to retire him simply because age is having a bigger effect on your player than any amount of training can counter. So, you voluntarily retire, get a ton of FP back, and start making a new player (and it can be at a different position, a different focus) and that can be fun too.

Yes. Don't ever force a retirement, but after a certain point, the player should just start to suck, and become easily prone to injury, so no one will start him and you'll want to retire him. You could pass on a retired player's equipment too, but it should wear out and break eventually.

Generation IPod is used to getting everything on the interweb for free -- music costs money to make and football sims cost money to run -- do you think your investment of $10 should entitle you to play forever?

Personally I think this site it awesome -- I've played the free Yahoo fantasy games for years but have always balked at the pay features because you need to go from $0 to over $100 to run a plus league

I just spent $100 just before reading this, and I wish I had read this first. I do not feel that I am being ripped of, but I feel like what's the point. The only MMORPG I have ever played other than this is WOW. Ask someone what their goal in WOW is, and I bet their goal is to level players to 70 (current max.) and become good in endgame. Without an endgame this becomes more Fantasy Fantasy Football than MMORPG. (Yes, I did mean Fantasy Fantasy Football.)

Still I would not argue that retirement is not necessary, but there needs be some kind of bonus that you get when a high level player retires. The idea I saw and liked best was a special piece of equipment that you can pass on to a new character that retains it bonus skill points, and can have additional skill points added to it over the course of the next players careers. Even if you only get a max of adding 6 or so skill points to add to this piece of equipment over each players career it would be enough at least for me to keep me playing.

I can not speak for all people, but if I just have to start over from scratch when a player retires I will quickly lose interest.

My idea for having children would be that instead of starting with a bonus of 500xp, but this would continue to escalate from generation to generation. The parent player must play at least 10 seasons.
Example
Generation 1 starts level 1
Generation 2 starts level 1 with 500xp
Generation 3 starts level 2
Generation 4 starts level 2 with 500xp
and so on

For those of you thinking this stacks too fast think about the fact that each generation takes about a year and a half to pass, so it would be 6 years from now that Generation 5 would be coming about, and they would only be starting a level 3 when created. This may even be too slow.

I think a good thing to do is have leagues where only certain lvl players can go. like 1-10 or something have one league 11-20 have another and so on. that way you will never have a lvl 1 team against another team with like lvl 100's all over the place in the future. keep the same levels playing among themselves. If you are lvl 10 when the season starts you will be in the lowest league still. But even when you boost, you will have to wait until the next season to go up a league.

I'd rather have this than starting over.

How can I be expected to invest in something that will not show returns or be long term? We're talking about something I will have put a good 50-100 bucks in over a long stretch of time! That's like world of warcraft retiring your player after you played for 3 years because they wouldn't live that long...what a horrible thing.

From a consumer's standpoint, I do believe it is cheap. Who cares if I shoot back up? I put MY time and MY money into it and I should be rewarded accordingly, you just can't take it away because it's realistic or to give someone else a chance to be the best.

Use your brain? Ok tell me how this makes sense. I invest time and money into something for entertainment, and the level of my entertainment is (should be) directly related to the amount of time and money I invest. So you are telling me, that if I invest more time and money than other people, that you are going to take away %70 of my investment as well as all the aforementioned time put into that entertainment? That sounds like a scam to me ESPECIALLY considering I've put money into it already before I knew this.

You can guarantee that I will be much less likely to put my money into something that has diminishing returns, especially if it is for entertainment.

Im with you 100% I have spent close to $50 on this game, and if this is the case I do not think I would invest another dollar into this game...just being honest

I just started playing and have spent 25 bucks. I did not have to spend 25 bucks to play but I chose to out of my own free will. When I started playing my first question was "when will my player retire". Not "will my player retire". Football players retire that seemed obvious to me, but I can also see how rpg players would be upset.

This is the first mix of rpg/football that I have personally seen, so I imagine it might be bringing two different types of gamers together. I mean, if you have played Madden then you know players retire. But in most RPG's your player never "retires".

With that said, I have never seen an advertisement on this site. I heard (might be a rumor) that they added more servers to make the site better. They never forced me to pay a dime. I would say this site is totally legit and a great example of capitalism at it's finest. They offer a great product at a reasonable/free price.

If players don't retire then the guys on top of the league right now will always dominate because they were here first. The other alternative is setting a max level on players in which case every game would be 22 lvl 50's vs 22 lvl 50's. Football works in cycles and that is how I see this site working. Your team starts at the bottom and works their way up. If it doesn't work out, then try something new next year.

i just think you should put in a level cap like any mmorpg and leave it at that >.>

if you were to force retire, you should definately give something uber special back but i don't think i would continue playing just for that.

I appologize if this has been stated before, but think of it from this point of view, when we login, we currently get a big message on the homepage telling us that even more servers are on the way so we can own more teams, or have more players in various places. If players get 100% flex points back after retirement, as has been stated before, they will no-longer need to donate. so we will get to the point when the donaters stop donating, and the free players - well, they don't donate anyway-. This leads to no new capital coming into the game for the admins to bring in new hardware and other addons, which will casue the game to grind to a standstill, and perhaps even die if the incoming capital isn't enough to pay for hosting and maintinence .

So I believe that 70% is a fair return as the money we spend doesn't go into the developers pockets, it goes to upgrading the game we obviously love to play (especially if we donate).

I say make a poll with a few alternatives that everyone gets to vote in, makes it most fair for everyone imo.

I'm for no retirement, I say totally leave everything that has to do with age and keep it level-wise like in aaaall other mmorpgs. Leveling will square out so the pros will at some point level about 1 level/season.

I say no level cap aswell, playing the game for a longer period of time should have benefits like in every other game.

Something that definitely needs to come is some activity-monitored points. Staying active should definitely be awarded, so the lvl 80's cant just log in once a month and stay on top of their game.

I'm also against boosting players for FP. Being able to have more players/teams is fine, but boosting already existing players is wrong. At least put a cap on it, say after lvl 30 you cant boost him anymore. Buying FP to gain your play (boost players) is wrong, but being able to have more fun (buying more teams/players) is good. If they dont do anything about it, some rich guys gonna own all the top leagues with 1000 fully boosted players each with all the extreme equip that comes with. Boring imo.

Probably something I forgot and probably bad spelling/grammar but who cares.

Play hard go pro.

I was reading all this and gave up at page 8....

Before I make my bit, I've been on this for a few weeks and not spent a penny. I'm happy to build my players up through training and game time to a decent level and play in a bigger league when I've reached that level.

The choice to pay money for points is your own. The admins don't buy flex points and keep them in a box to distribute as you pay for them. Its a virtual currency that you pay for to keep the site open and because you can't be arsed to wait and do it the long way. The admins decide how many points to give everyone and can change it by modifying the programming (in laymans terms, in reality it's not quite that simple but you get my meaning) which you should know playing a game like this.
All this "I want something back for paying for something I didn't need to" is bollocks. No-one forced you to pay. It wasn't a hidden cost. You had to enter your details! That should have been the point where you should have asked yourself "What am I paying for? Is it worth paying money to dominate a game?" Its people like that who ruin games like this for everyone else.
There are people worried about losing players legacy from retirement, which is everyones problem really. Create players children, or a Hall of Fame, or allow the user to view the achievements until they delete their account - because other than pride points amongst you and your friends who play, who gives a fuck?

I like the fact that its mostly Packers who are moaning....
BEAR DOWN!
