i see a lot of +1's, but was there a formula given for deciding who takes the blame?

if a sack happens, should all non-receivers on the field be given +1 to their sacks allowed? then you at least wouldn't get blamed if you werent on the field. i dont know of a way to be more specific than that

even the nfl only tracks sacks allowed by the entire team despite having human stat trackers that could assign blame

At minimum you could add a sack allowed to any lineman that was actually blocking (came into contact with) the guy that sacked the QB. So, if an OT was blocking a DE, and the DE manages to slip around him and sack the QB, then that OT would get a sack allowed. It doesn't account for cases like a CB or LB blitz where no one touches them, but it would be better than nothing in my opinion, and I think it would be a great addition.

This is the real issue. There's a greasemonkey script (I think it's replay rewrite, not really sure) that when you watch the replays it shows who was "assigned" to a player targeted by a pass, hurried and sacked the QB. The problem is it only tells who he's closest to and it's wrong when you're LT gets blamed for a blitzing LB while he's engaged with the RE.
It would be a good stat if it can be implemented.

I love this game but don't know anything about programing. That said, if possible, could "sacks allowed" be defined as a o'lineman, who has engaged a block, lost it, and the player he lost it too gets the sack? I know it isn't precise but real football stats aren't either.

This would be one of the best stats to rank the o-line. Pancakes are great for run blocking, but zero sacks explains your pass blocking skills.

I agree that it would be wrong for an OT to get blamed for a blitzing LB while he's engaged with the RE, but wouldn't it even out for the most part around the league?

Everyone seems to like this idea, but most sacks are given up by tackles facing speed DE's. Which of you are going to want to sign a tackle with 20 sackes allowed in a season. what about 40 in a season. Left tackles will have a hard time finding work after a bad season. And who gets the sack allowed for a blitzing LB. What about to or three blitzing LB's. I agree that pancakes are out of control. Maybe Bort simply needs to make it harder to knock down D-linemen. Or make an effective blocking scale that measures how well a limeman made his blocks all game long.

Offensive tackles are already adjusting, agility is the rage for all o-linemen. If a defenseman goes unblocked, nothing is recorded unless he gets near the QB.

What I'm asking for is a stat that records when a block is engaged, broken, and then results in a sack. Not perfect...nothing is...but we happily go along with the rest of it.
