Agree with mutley. It was footwork that he said made WRs turn their bodies better.

I believe Footwork plays a part in a few instances of being a WR. When Footwork doesn't apply, Quickness is what turns the WR.

Comebacks/Hitches/Hooks will definitely have the WR use footwork after the catch to create separation from the CB, I believe Footwork also helps for those routes as well. There are a few routes where it seems like the WR's supposed to use Footwork to run it, such as 3WR Quick Cutback. But I think Footwork doesn't just speed the motion up, but also increase the distance the WR travels while using Footwork. I think this is bad in some instances when what should be a 9-11 yard gain winds up being a 5-6 yarder as the WR comes back way too far. For the quick hitches that are designed to be used on Short yardage, every now and then they'll come back so sharply that by the time the QB throws it, they're already behind the line of scrimmage.

Things like out routes, the WR won't use footwork, he'll instead use quickness to turn upfield.

It'd be interesting to see 50ish footwork on WR's and then a playbook designed with routes just for them, but I'm not going to be the one to test that.

GG TxSteve, if we can even GG a Pickup game? Anyways, I partially blame the QB, but you helped shut me down. He was sacked a few times after I had broken wide open, he had a few bad incompletes, but by and large I couldn't do much.

Your conditioning edge was getting large as the game wore on. My guy was entering plays a little gassed, and would run on fumes before Head Fake even really had a shot to fire.

im not talking about specific route running. talking about the literal turning round sort of like steves CB does. And what WRs do when they catch and do that back pedal thing into CBs rather than turning round. Thats why i think steves CB turns round so quickly (high footwork) as he knows he is slow so makes the decision to turn and sprint as the best chance to keep up

I noticed conditioning contributing to 20yd, 40yd and Bench Press numbers. even though i haven't contributed to sprinting or quickness. Conditioning is at 70 now and should max at 76 by the time I hit Journeyman. My Power is already max at 82. I will cap Power to 87. then I will focus on some other physicals, debating whether I should make him a combo back and work speed and Elusive running to see how he turns out.

But with no boosting, not sure I will reach high enough numbers to make a difference.

Yeah I mention the WR backpedal post catch in the wall of text above.

I know, I was just covering every aspect I thought Footwork played for a WR. For anyone's reference, here's an example of route that should use Footwork:

Ya Pedro had a pretty good game there. Would be fun to see some of these games with a human QB (and better playbooks)

Some things are funny though:

My CB knows where you're going before you've even made a move

maybe footwork = psychic ability

Play 1:
Route calls for a throw inside, the QB tosses it vertically, I'm blanketed.
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1486986

Play 2:
Due to defensive playcall, I'm blanketed, your guy lines pretty far off.
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1487330

Play 3:
Every CPU QB has craptacular settings, a 9 speed corner is blitzing, there are 5 guys down field against 2 defenders, QB settings need to be fixed, or at least randomized
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1487342

Play 4:
Bad Throw, but double covered anyways
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1487348

Play 5:
Good QB throw placing it towards the sideline, but Pedro Pickup lays the wood
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1487496

Play 6:
Double covered again
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1487510

Play 7:
Can't separate at all
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1487757

Play 8:
I run a poor route which allows you to resume backpedal part way through
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1487999

Play 9:
I run an even worse route
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1488165

Play 10:
Not my preferred route, I gain ground but not nearly fast enough to matter
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1488345

Play 11:
If I had not jumped, probably would've reeled it in, you turn and run and with a throw behind the receiver you simply can't make a play on the ball
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1488431

Play 12:
Hey hey, my guy actually wins a matchup, no throw though
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1488445

Play 13:
See Play 10
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1488451

Play 14:
Lack of zone awareness
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/237921/1488481

Play 15:
I don't think WR1 has ever been thrown the ball for this route in all of my time watching Pickup games.
