Rob. I think the main thing DD is trying to point out is that builds matter. Everyone is out here running counters, the same as when everyone was spamming the QB GL. But not every team was undefeated or as successful as the teams with better builds. I think you have established yourself as one of the leaders in building to a particular strategy and achieving success. Finding the areas to take of advantages of the OPs in the game. I admire how you transitioned your PORN team from a All Pass team to a superb balanced attack, obviously with the addition of a superb HB definitely helps.
Just bring back GL QB Rollout. FFS it isn't any worse than what we have now.
Someone needs to get the global stats on how many time GL formation was used this season. It's dedder than ded.

I obviously am not seeing the builds on any top level teams right now -- and I do get what DD is saying.
The problems this season are identical to the problems we saw in the queen city hey day: someone can tell you they are going to spam counters --- and there is nothing you can do to stop it in all reality (most teams). That is exactly like the QB rollout / HB sweep in GL formation many seasons ago...you knew it was coming --- but there was nothing you can do to stop it. That is a a problem.
Do builds matter? Absolutely. My opinion is that blitz awareness is key to stopping counters. Is Madison high in blitz awareness on DE's? Is Ronin? I don't know.
So yes - builds matter. BUT. If your builds aren't great -- there should be plays that allow some amount of 'make up' if you are selling out to stop a specific play. If my builds aren't good enough to stop the Big I Counter...I should be able to significantly overload that side of the field so that I can overcome my poor builds with having more plays in the right area. That isn't the case now. Would that open me up to Big I sweep right? Of course...but now we are actually playing a game as we each pick which way to go.
Likewise: I'm facing a power back and my tackling sucks? My only chance is going to be to get multiple guys in the right position to stop the runner so that we are gang tackling (which can somewhat...in some cases....cover for bad tackling).
We've seen the passing teams get slowed down (not shut down) by dropping lots of guys into coverage. It looked to me like DD likely did get his custom counter defense in for that DA game - and it didn't work even knowing what was coming.
Would it be a great option to add more defensive plays that overload certain sides of the field and avoid the auto-fake of a counter? Yes. Do I think that will happen? No - it doesn't seem that kind of time is being invested in this game anymore.
Simpler and easier solution - tone down the fake (or force defenders to follow blitz paths which might be the same thing).

last season it was still in the thousands for GL rushing. How much of that was custom offenses and how much was premade -- I don't know.

TXSteve i think you last line points to my issue with how Counters are exploiting Defenses. Defenders on blitz I have seen in a lot of occasions are not even following their blitz path and going for the fake immediately. the only blitz that seems to work is the Tiger 3 Zone blitz where the ROLB is moving towards the LOS and actually gets in the backfield to disrupt the Trips Counter or other 2 WRs counters. however if the ROLB gets picked up by a blocker it could mean disaster for the D. It didnt seem to work for the BI Counter Left so buyer beware.

But the same can't be said for:
SG TE Drive
SB TE Drive
SB BIG TE Drive
Unless you count holding a team to 50% passing as stopping it I guess.
There is a problem with counters... But the problem also lies in trying to stop these plays in addition to it.
If you know exactly what play or 2 is going to be called out of a formation I don't understand why you can't stop that play 90% of the time regardless of the play, Run or Pass.

I suggest fixing your builds or fixing your defensive play calls if you can't stop them, but they can be stopped.

On this whole "fix ur builds" red herring/troll of DDs, I'm pretty sure GL QB Rollout didn't work with a passing QB.
So builds mattered for that play. So why was it removed? It clearly wasn't OP since "builds matter" or some stupid ish like that.

I agree that builds matter and it is important to remember that. But is everyone building wrong or are counters just too strong?

Totally agree. I could live with getting burned by counter strong because I sold out to stop counter weak or because the HB I was facing broke a bunch of tackles. The issue with the counters as they are now is that they don't even require broken tackles to go for 80 yards. It's too easy to get long TD's from them against A LOT of defensive calls and that is what is throwing everything off balance. It's very similar to the GL Rollouts because of the homerun threat.

By all means I think counters are too strong. And seems to equalize teams with poor builds against similar poor/decent build teams or poor/decent defensive teams. But when they go against a Rob.-like team it is not as effective and it shows and this is due to the build. I think there is a good amount of teams that are able to take advantage of it far more than others and it has exacerbated the play where the Agents with a keen eye on building strategies have found ways to go beyond those casual builders. just my opinion.

I wasn't around for the worst of GL rushes but I remember the start of them and you could use any QB for it.

You can use any QB for rushing "spam" in rookie/early soph right now. Just put ~25 speed on them and keep the fun going into seasoned!

ya - think the QB rushing advantage is the magnet blocking ability of most all blockers.
