A very rare sighting. GE's offense managed to put points on the board: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/170499/943357

to be even fairer, ASU sacked our opponent for more (165) yardage than they gained (112), so they technically had negative net offensive yards.

Sounds like that 'ship GE was grabbing is turning out to be a sinking one.

2 steps forward, 1 step back on offense. He called good outside run plays...C0 something and 4-3 zone outside run. At least my defense shut them down.

That's like bragging about beating up on a mentally challenged kid but then it turns out you got knocked out by said mentally challenged kid

We need GE to have the attitude of TDiddy for this to be more fun.

Conventional wisdom is that zone gets annihilated by passing. And if there was one thing that was holding GE's team back last season people would probably point to his Zone defense. But from looking at the below, how many people (without cheating and using Stobie's tool to look this up) could guess which one of these was GE's Cover 2 Zone defense? These were all Journeyman teams in Season 9.

Team 1:
2TE: 45%
2WR: 42%
3WR: 43%
4WR: 39%
5WR: 31%

Team 2:
2TE: 52%
2WR: 52%
3WR: 55%
4WR: 50%
5WR: 48%

Team 3:
2TE: 42%
2WR: 45%
3WR: 46%
4WR: 36%
5WR: 42%

Team 4:
2TE: 61%
2WR: 52%
3WR: 53%
4WR: 47%
5WR: 40%

Team 5:
2TE: 55%
2WR: 52%
3WR: 48%
4WR: 54%
5WR: 44%

Besides GE's team the other 4 were the Killer Kiwi's, Ground Assault, Logzilla, and Winnepeg Wrath. Those other four were all Top 5 teams in JMan. GE was ranked in the 15-20 range.

Every now and then GE would hold quality teams to 20-30 points, but it wouldn't matter if he struggled to score two touchdowns. For all we know it could be viable right now with the proper builds/scheme. GE's defense was strictly Cover 2, at a time when a lot of the common passing plays worked well against Cover 2's. Maybe the addition of the new Cover 3 plays would make Zone a powerful defense?

I think you may be a bit behind the curve here. Doinitin Djibouti is zone defense and is 7-2 in Vet league.

Huh?

I guess that makes DA a zone defense too since we used some zone against the Stunners.

I think what you are going to see is a lot of teams building their "zone" defenses around the newer "zone/man" plays. A couple man defenders mixed in with some specialized zone builds rather than just going all out zone on everyone. Allows more room for error than the all zone plays in which players just aren't fast enough for.

Parab00n has used a lot of Cover 3 Tiger, but I wouldn't call it a zone defense.
