Continuing to advertise games that have already been advertised would be a bad idea as you're sinking resources for little potential return. But GLB was never advertised or really even marketed at all. As with so many other things about this game, making people aware of its existence was left to the users themselves. And again, I do not blame Bort for that, at least not more than refusing to do anything about a business partner who does nothing to promote the business or really any work of any kind while actively trolling customers.
Forum > Goal Line Blitz > GLB1 its a crying shame

Maybe...the market just isn't as big as you think it is?
We are advertising GLB2, and it's resulting in a slow trickle of new users.
Not sure how advertising GLB1 would result in much of a difference. Not sure tacking on "as welcoming to new users as castration" and "jaded forum users that hate everything" is going to work miracles.

I'm not asking for massive changes. I'm asking for you guys to do the little things right to show that you still care about the people who made GLB2 possible -- GLB1's customers.
But nah, never mind, just call us "jaded" again. And definitely don't ever wonder why we're jaded.

We did, we spent 6 years developing GLB1, and continue to spend money to keep the servers up.
Asking us to indefinitely continue updating a game that you claim is dying is the epitome of arrogance.

I claim it's dying because you've stopped working on it.

the users didn't do a good enough job marketing GLB1 and that was the downfall, i hope you all learned your lesson for GLB2

So which suggestions are going to make leaps and bounds at improving the livelihood of GLB?
Slight tweaks to chemistry? Skipping PATs? 95% of the userbase wouldn't even notice, 1% would enjoy it, then 4% would just be furious for whatever reason. Six years of changes didn't make huge strides towards a thriving game, not sure why you'd think fiddling around with a couple small things is going to do much.
I like the idea of just riding GLB1 into the sunset for the rest of my life as much as you do, but surely you have to realize that just isn't possible? GLB1 still has a lively enough playerbase to continue for some time, and we have every intention of keeping the servers going for as long as there's people to play it, but surely, as a person who hasn't spent money since 2009, you realize that we can't just make small tweaks here and there and somehow sustain indefinitely.

You keep putting all of this effort into taking these shots at me, calling me "jaded" and looking up when my last Flex purchase was.
And yet you won't ask yourself the question: why is Novus jaded? Why hasn't Novus bought Flex since 2009? Could the unprofessional manner in which we conduct ourselves and run this game possibly have anything to do with it at all?
Nah, must just be the customer's fault.
You're spending all this time and energy arguing with your customers. You really think that's the best possible use of your time?
Stop being Deathblade. Go back to being Corndog.

I didn't need to go look up when your last flex purchase was, you were bragging about it a few weeks ago.
So tell me, what could possibly be done to make you decide to spend money after 4-5 years of not doing so? Have we not made drastic changes in the mean time?

Ya there aren't any changes that are going to suddenly make the game super fun again without changing the entire game itself. But then again...would it really hurt to throw a wrench into the game at this point? Opening up the DPC again, adding a couple new formations. Anything fun to the game. Maybe a 6th man premium promotion that gives a penalty to different skills for the opposing team. I mean understandable you want to keep focus on GLB2 and other future games but you can't carve out any time to think of something interesting to keep people interested here too?

He'd have to set aside some of this time spent trolling private forums and GLB main
so that's NGTH

Except this is still Bort's baby, so I'd have to confirm everything with him.
Then I'd have to work my way through the giant mess of code that is GLB's sim code (that I've yet to touch since I've worked here).
New formations are a massive, massive undertaking. "Opening the DPC" could possibly be done, but then that's just going to bring back all of the "exploit" blitzes, so is that really going to change the game for the better?
