I would suggest that DD or whomever is interested in this take the ideas, make a thread for each, and have us pick them apart.

so is that it for ideas on changing the league structure?

do you think people want us to go with an idea they have seen here already?

I'm not saying to end this thread, and whatever is here is here. I am saying take whatever you like and let all that are interested point out the pro's and cons of each idea. I doubt any one idea will be perfect on it's own. These are complex issues. Without extended discussion many do not fully grasp the intricacies of them.

It doesn't "solve" all the problems in the GLB world, but it does help.

To really hammer the point home though...

- reward additional fame to players who are playing in top-tier teams
- make higher 'fame' equate to higher 'salaries'
- give agents options for spending their dot's salaries. Eg. buy 'temp boosts'. (see: http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=3973683 )

If that league has 20 teams with a USA flag and 1 from SAPL, 1 from EEPL, 1 from WEPL, 7 from SEAPL..........doesnt matter. Each team can have a region banner of their choice but be in a competitive league

Huh, that's an interesting idea. Get rid of regional leagues, but let team owners say "I'm from South America" or "I'm from USA."

The bigger issue would be how teams promote to the WL. Clearly there are about 10-16 stand alone pro teams just as there were a season ago, so if you put all the best teams into 1 region you need to make sure 10-12 of those teams promote, and the bottom 4 play in with 4 teams from the next highest tier pro league.

Definately agree with doing away with ALGs. That would make the whole NEED (and it is a need at this point in time), to have the first 5 seasons a players career be spent not being able to contribute to a team's chance of winning.

Look at the stats for WL and most Pro players over their first 6 seasons. You will see a trend.

In order to compete foe the last 3 seasons, you are forced to SUCK for the first 7.

I would propose that currently, it is impossible to take the same players on the same team and have the team AND players together make it to pros, let alone the WL.

End ALGs, make the game more fun from start to finish.

this has zero to do with league competitiveness

What's the point of having regional identities if you do that? If everyone is playing together, it makes zero sense to assign random geographical regions to teams. Region identity has nothing to do with being FROM South America, it has to do with competing IN the region CALLED South America.

I know bort kind of likes it, but it really doesn't make any sense..(sorry Bort)

Competing with teams in your region for trophies...like leagues? like the leagues we have now?? lol.

Fellas..comeon. Destroying all regions is actually a fun idea and would probably work..but maintaining geography and having tourneys based on that is just fluff. Let's figure out the best league structure so we can all be competitive and worry about painting our nails later...

I see it as more of a way for people to "hold on" to their old regional identities if we go to a non-regional system of some sort. Like DD said, you could even have it feed into tourneys or "top teams from X" lists.

Honestly, I doubt that would ever work. What made the regions great was the fact that you started in South America (for example) and worked your way up against other teams who were also from South America.

(Seriously - would we have ever seen a 'Brazilian Waxers' if you never had regions? Doubt it. And this game would have been worse for it.)

But when new teams come up, they aren't going to know anything about regional pride..because they will just be asked to pick a random flag..right?

Honestly Bort, nobody cares what region they are from. They CARE because it's related to the reputation and competition in that league. You don't see people "REPPING" oceania or africa cuz those regions have poor reps and get no respect..you know? People only care because the regions are currently separate and have different identities..once you merge it all, that's gone and no need for it.
