No more excuses
lol? Some serious denial here. Recruiting WL quality builds for an independent team is a nightmare, even for someone like me who is known and has (believe it or not) a good reputation as an owner. I have also had to craft AIs around the dots I was able to get, as opposed to being able to pick through a laundry list of dots to choose the perfect one for the system I'd like to run. Networks have a huge advantage, which is precisely the reason they exist.
But I personally don't hate networks for having that advantage so much as for killing off the identities that used to make the game interesting. It's kind of like what bhall says about the mind-numbing boredom he feels from playing a ghuffman defense over and over again. Independent teams have a different feel to them, and the more you have, the more colorful the league becomes. There is some nuance between Nairobi, Cincinnati, and Odessa, but it feels a bit like the Eskimos having so many words for snow. It's still snow. The WL and GLB in general was more fun back when each team was distinct, with a different feel to the gameplans, different styles of ownership, different posters, etc. And as for OFOTD, we are what happens when DCs get tired of DCing. I liked Grand Banks more, but I no longer had the energy or passion for this game to continue running it myself.
