The biggest problem would be that the playoffs wouldn't really matter past the first round, because everyone promotes, and teams would stop gameplanning for it. The gold medal round of Pro leagues is already halfway dead because the gameplanning effort goes way down after the push for WL is successful.

I don't know the details of how promotion/demotion and all that stuff works. I'm assuming jdbolick covered it in his post somewhere or wise in one of his essays. I know it's not super easy and won't appease everyone but something obviously needs to be done. GLB isn't the same as it was 10 years ago and the same structure then doesn't work now

Every time I mention that problem, it mostly gets ignored, or "hey it's better than what we have now." But you can't fix thing by sweeping the downsides under the rug.

The bottom line is, the # of "feeder" leagues to the World League is never going to be satisfactory as a fixed number. We started with 8. There's calls for 2. As more teams get better 4 might make more sense. If the game leaves beta and gets popular 10 or 12 might be a better number. Claiming 2 will be any better as a permanent fixture than 8 is just silly - look at what happened with the AAA leagues into Pro under the pyramids. Cloud structure was brought for a reason - to keep the number of leagues dynamic - but at some point we have to move to a fixed number or the promotion to WL doesn't work.
