Honestly he’s not being extra though. He’s not front and center kneeling or anything, he’s just in the back prepping for a game imo

And I think you’re all forgetting that it doesn’t matter whether they sit or stand, they get paid to go out there to compete. As long as they are doing what they’re supposed to on the field then what they do on the sidelines shouldn’t trigger you so much.

I'll go against my best judgement and weigh in.

To quote a vet:

"As a vet, I don't feel "disrespected".

I swore to defend all rights. Especially the unpopular ones that most people disagree with. Those ones need protected the most.

What does make me feel disrespected is when you drag MY service into YOUR argument and get offended on MY behalf.

Veterans are fucking tired of being brought out like dancing poodles for the fucking GOP and conservatives of this nation to further their own selfish, backwards, and archaic ideas.

That's disrespectful to us.

We are living, breathing people with our own thoughts and ideologies.

We don't belong to your team. We don't belong to any team.

We swore to uphold the Constitution. Part of that Constitution is these players doing exactly what they are allowed to do - peacefully protest.

Showing 100% reverence to a nation or symbol of the nation is NOT patriotism, it's nationalism.

And history has shown that nationalism is a very dangerous idea."

And yes, I know these aren't my words - and I am not a vet - but they fit my ideas about this pretty succinctly.

I am a vet and this is %100 percent opposite of how I feel. People have rights and I agree they have the right to protest but the time they are choosing to protest is offensive and not what I want my children and all other children to see and learn. This country while it has issues also gives these guys the right and ability to be who they are and be in a position to have an influence over things. Standing for England's anthem then kneeling for ours was ridiculous. I have the right to free speech but even though I have that right it doesn't make it OK if I go out and cuss in front of kids or say ridiculous stuff in certain circumstances....I can do so legally, but will be looked down upon for doing so....whats the difference? Show respect for the country that made you a millionaire and protest on your own time. Donate some of your money to a cause that forwards what you want, hold a press conference and get your point across.....that way you don't piss off half the country and have what you are trying to put forward be pushed into the background and instead of making your point everyone is talking about weather or not what you are doing is disrespectful.

1.) So basically cursing in front of kids is the same as kneeling during the anthem is what your saying. Good to know. Considering most kids these days have much more foul a mouth than we do I don't see the picture your trying to paint

2.) To paraphrase what you said: I fought for freedom, but I don't want people to be free to protest anytime they want. Its for the children's sake.

3.) Half the country isn't outraged. It only really started to get extreme when the shit for brains president decided he wanted to speak on it

4.) There are other countries that provide people with meaningful opportunities and you don't see large-scale protests on national issues there. There are other countries that are looking down on us at the moment because of all the stupid decisions the citizens have made.

Your a vet, you fought for these people's freedom right? It's so easy to say its disrespectful while not speaking on the problems that cause the protests. And its so easy to say that the problems are bad when in reality you don't give 2 shits.

From what I've noticed, the true collectivist vets are indifferent because they take into account what the protests are about and the individualistic vets are outraged because its a slight to their ego. Their whole argument is that "I fought so you could protest freely and peacefully, but do it in a way that I feel like will affect me the least".

Grow up

seriously? NO thats not what i said at all. I said I agree that people have the right to protest....but there is a time and place to do it and during the anthem isn't that time or place. Yes I don't want children to see there heroes show a lack of patriotism because if a generation of children loose faith in there county what do they believe in and fight for. Many people are upset or this wouldn't even be talked about and yes if you look at poling its roughly half the country.... as far as the other countries comment if thats how you or anyone else feels then move to those other countries. the grow up comment I wont even dignify a response. How do you know what I care about????? If I didn't give two shits I wouldn't be posting about it here. Your opinion is your opinion and weather I agree with it or not its your right to have and I wont belittle you for it.... Why is my opinion any different?

Right now your saying it’s your right to have your own opinion, so why is it disrespectful to use a powerful medium to protest.

The point of protesting is to reach and inspire an audience. I don’t think a lot of vets really understand what disrespectful is. Disrespectful is when you come home from serving and you get treated like trash. Disrespectful is when people tell you they don’t care about your service and how your stuck in the past. Disrespectful is when people automatically come up with the notion that you joined the military due to a lack in other options. Disrespectful is when protesters show up to military ceremonies or military funerals and resort to aggressive tactics.

Honestly, I think most people find it “disrespectful” because it’s a protest fueled by African-Americans. People just want to watch us play football; they honestly don’t believe football players are entitled to any say whatsoever. If it’s not entertaining, people are against it. This is just another form of oppression. But those on their high horse won’t see that and will just go about making their own spin on the whole thing. Maybe if the President, Vice President, a good chunk of Congress, and almost half of the country wasn’t racist, there would be no protests.

Vets can say whatever they want, but at the end of the day we’re the same people that look out for our vets. Even if it’s just family vets. Those who find it disrespectful are just close minded. African Americans have been disrespected from the beginning, since your people stole them and sold them into slavery. Since we had to fight for civil rights that states didn’t even want to bother to give us because they didn’t see us as anything. And even today as stereotypes are thrown around like a... football. White people love our culture, but don’t love us. Crazy to think isn’t it. Too bad it’s true.

Disrespectful is assuming because I'm white I'm a racist. What you said here is racist. I don't care the race of the person kneeling during the anthem I don't like it and thats just how I feel about it. I judge people by how they treat me. the race of a person doesn't matter. I had nothing to do with what people did 100 years ago....or 60 years ago. I can only be who I am and treat people the way I would want to be treated. You said African Americans have been disrespected since my people stole them. First of all my people came here from Germany during world war 2 and had nothing to do with slave trading in early America. Second slaves weren't stolen by Americans they were sold by there own people. Learn history before you make statements. There is racism on all sides by all people and Your entire post was full of racism.

Are you telling a vet what he should feel disrespected by? You are ridiculous, and it's been obvious by your posts like the bolded portion, idiotic sentence

Trump, Pence, a good chunk of Congress, and a large portion of the US is racist. If you don't believe that then you must have an internal filter that has their bullshit go in through one ear and out the other.

Meant white people in general, honestly didn't realize I put your. And that's not racism because no one was discriminating because of your skin color. I was making a point that Americans decided to get into the slave trade and most of them didn't want to break away from that. Had there been no war, who knows how long slavery would've gone for. It doesn't matter how relative it is to you, because the reality of it is that had things not gone so poorly for the south and they got what they wanted, slavery would be a big part of our society still. I firmly believe that. People in this country don't change.

As a veteran, do you find the Confederate flag to be disrespectful?

And players are kneeling for more than just racism. The other day, a guy said he kneels because he feels like the country was doing a terrible job at addressing important issues and the issue that he brought up was actually human trafficking. If kneeling to ensure the safety of our children gets you upset then that's just crazy considering your so pro children

Trump became "racist" once he decided to run as a republican, before that he was a great friend to the democratic party, naacp, sharpton, jackson etc. etc. etc.

Show proof of your statement about the bolded and then we can start a conversation, until them just shut up and chill with the whole everyone is racist narrative, it's so simple minded it's gross
